Island alum root, the largest California native species among coral bells, forms a mound, with large evergreen leaves. This small perennial produces complex, beautiful white and pink flowers on long stalks. Native to California's coastal islands, it’s popular in the Inland Empire for its ease of growth. Ideal as a dense shade understory plant, it thrives in shady areas along walkways, in mass plantings, pots, and patio planters. It grows best in loamy soils with regular moisture and can endure short periods of moisture stress during summer.
