Island Bend Campground - Kosciuszko NP - New South Wales

This is one of the biggest campground I have filmed. It is massive and has 2 main areas. The lower area is closest to the Snowy River and the upper area is on the site of old building that were used when the PowerStation was built. You need a parks pass to visit and have to go through a pay station on Alpine Way to get here. At time of filming you also need to have booked a spot and pay a booking fee of $6. There are firepits, drop loos and tables. There is no phone signal.

Great review, take note of the warning signs if your camping near the water, their not joking about rapid changes in water level.

Yep. Rose a good few feet when we were there even after just a few hours rain. Can imagine after prolonged rain it can be hectic!

Water is released from Guthega Dam upstream to generate power. I don't know if they still do it, but a loud siren was pushed just before they did a dump. Cheers for the review.

Regarding no chainsaws - what if you have one in the car and drove in from Vic where they are allowed?

Well yes. No idea. I’ll admit that we had one in the car. Didn’t use it though, which was like torture. I see it as an essential piece of safety kit.
