RIP To all the fire victims in Maui, truly a horrific tragedy. We were in Maui a few years ago and Lahaina was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

Seeing southwest island hop is interesting. Just a few years ago, it was just Hawaiian airlines being the main airline for island hopping, and back in the day, aloha airlines. I flew on a southwest island hop from Kahului to Honolulu back in February.

I truly love flying Southwest. They are always my number one airline and I fly them the most. They are very reliable (besides December 2022). They are also good for their friendly employees and two checked bags. And let’s not forget the snack mix and then brownie brittle for long flights. Thanks for making this vid dawg.

I also was surprised many years ago when a Japan Airlines 747 landed and pulled up real close to the gate area almost right over everyone's head.

Another great video Chris! At least there were no “Karens” aboard this flight! Which I watched your flight on AA just before this video! I don’t remember flying AA myself in my years of flying. The last time I flew commercial was several years ago when Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlink were still in operation. That was my first time flying from Moline “KMLI” to Detroit then Detroit to Manchester New Hampshire. Yeah that dates me but who cares 😊. Shoot I’ve flown on Ozark Airlines several times (long ago). I do enjoy your channel 110%! Mark in Iowa.

I've also done Hawaiian and Southwest for inter-island Hawaii flights. They each have their pros. Southwest's main pro is the free checked bags. But HA has the advantage of no agriculture inspections (as the WN planes might continue to/come from the mainland), so the time needed pre-boarding is less and you don't have to worry about throwing anything out. Plus, HA has way more interisland flights whereas Southwest only has a couple between various airports, giving you more flexibility. Additionally, if you're going to/from HNL, HA's inter-island gates (at least when I flew there) were pretty close to the curb, so it was a much faster process before and after landing. So for overall cost (especially when factoring bags), Southwest is likely the better option. But when it comes to time and flexibility, Hawaiian is the better option.
@SYDAirlineEnthusiast4 ай бұрын
Not true. You still have to go through agricultural inspections with Hawaiian. Funny thing is I didn’t have this problem when flying with southwest from Oakland to Kahului to Honolulu, but had this problem whenever flying Hawaiian from an island to mainland with a connection at a different island.

Just so you know you have a very unique landing. That is the reverse flow from normal landings. in the 15+ times I have flown into HNL, I have never been on a reverse flow flight.

Out of curiosity, did you have better Southwest experiences with longer Southwest flights (~5 hours) or really short Southwest flights (i.e. island hopping in Hawaii)?

Boarding your MAX aircraft outdoors via a ramp is the only and best way to enter! Your final approach to HNL is rare--flying close by the Waikiki hotels is a sight to behold--normal procedure is to cruise by Pearl Harbor and Hickam AFB before touching down on the reef runway--so a 717 vs a 737 MAX for island hopping, what say you?

weird how they use a big max for island hopping, a 700 would do better
@KaiOz Жыл бұрын
The 700's of southwest is not etops certified :/ . But from what i heard .. once they get the max 7's they will use it to fly over hawaii..
@Stupidboi1 Жыл бұрын
@@KaiOz oh i didnt know
@K4Ediamond5 ай бұрын
@@Stupidboi1 Also even if the -700s were ETOPS certified, putting them on island-hopping flights would also require them to be used on the Continental USA - Hawaii flights (so that they are able to get to Hawaii in the first place). These flights typically last 5 or 6 hours, and me having flown Southwest's -700s multiple times, I would much rather they only use the more comfortable maxes on those routes.
@Stupidboi15 ай бұрын
@@K4Ediamond I see. I like the 700 a lot but the max seats aren't comfortable at all
@K4Ediamond5 ай бұрын
@@Stupidboi1 The seats on the max aren't great but they have a lot of legroom. The WN -700's legroom is decent, just not enough for a 6 hour flight in my personal opinion. I'd say the most comfortable Southwest product is "Evolve" interior on the -800. Not sure if those are used for Hawaii flights though.

The absolute nerve you have to post this right now is insane. No care for the victims, no links to donate, nothing. Absolute typical of Americans. Native Hawaiians have been very vocal about not wanting tourists anymore at all and not only do you not honor it, you post this during wildfires. shame shame
@MatthewsAviationChannel Жыл бұрын
He doesn’t include donation links with his content. He also did make a comment of his regards to the fire victims. Besides this video was filmed over a year before the fires. If you read the description, you’ll notice that it says filmed in January 2022.
