Tab Hunter was 19 and Linda Darnell was 28 when this began filming. Tab was perfectly cast in this role and the film was a huge success particularly amongst the teenage market. Tab Hunter became a star and teen idol after this his first movie and with very little experience. He was a natural talent as well as having the looks. He was amazing and led an extraordinary and inspiring life - true to himself and never took the Hollywood hype seriously.

I think the starlet Linda Darnell did not represent the character very well, she was supposed to be a much older woman and not so very attractive such that in the real world it would have been a mismatch.
