Just wondering about how things are holding up for e propulsion . Hope all is well . Safety is first 👍 Watching from BC 🇨🇦

FIrst time on your channel. Sarasota is home but I am usually far away. Love the electric IP and your purposeful video notes on the usage and the family ICW trip. Will catch up on your conversion.

This was an awesome test! Hope she's still treating you well. I also have a 27 footer on the West Coast that I'm looking at doing an electric conversion on. Yours is also one of the few boats of her size that has a hard dinghy with davits on the back. I've been meaning to do the same but was worried about weight distribution with the dinghy hanging off the stern like that. Have you noticed it's been an issue? Does having an electric vs a big diesel engine make a noticeable difference on the balance? Thanks! So cool to see the conversion projects on boats like these!

Hi Dave. Cliff from gulf coast big bend area. I have a boat project I’ve been working on for a while that will be all electric no sail. Seriously considering Thunderstruck. Could you tell me a little about motor and prop rpm if you have that at different speeds. Thanks

Charging redundancy: You have a propane gen set. Have you considered a DC genset? This is more fuel efficient and is quieter because it doesn’t have to operate at AC synchronous speed for all load conditions. Additionally the conversion losses of AC to DC are eliminated. Does your Electric SV have regen capability when under sail? If not have you considered a quiet wind generator or a “Watt & Sea” hydrogenerator? I have enjoyed watching your system work. “Sun Sailing” is a useful term in that it takes excess PV energy and sends it to the prop rather than wasting it as rejected heat. 👍

How do you like the IP 27? I’ve never seen one in person but I love the looks and it seems such a functional use of space

Hey Capt. Dave! Just now found your channel... hope you'll add more content. Can you tell me about your boat's name, "Gilbert Ivy"?

All electric sounds like a fun back-up if it could be rigged as such. But would not want to be without a diesel. Especially in those stretches when you had no wind and were relegated to ~2 knots.

Im guessing you could hook a little Honda Generator to it to charge the batteries if needed? I wonder how much charge you could get out of 1 tank?

I have a dual fuel Propane or Gas suitcase generator. It runs for 38 hours on a single cylinder of propane so my range can be extended easily. However, I have never needed to use my generator for this purpose....only for running the AC!

Nice job Dave! Can you give us a little technical info - like speeds vs kW when you are on motor only? Total kWh used for the whole 330 mile trip?

I didn't really track to that level of detail. I would estimate that my solar panels were producing 8amps of 48v solar for 10 hours on the sunny days and half of that on the cloudy days. I only charged at a couple of marinas but in hindsight I probably didn't need to because my battery never dipped below 51% and it is a LIfePo4 bank so it can be fully discharged.

How much water do you have in total?

what motor did you put in that?

Hi Dave It’s Harley from the Catalina 42 that was moored on the same dock in Titusville marina. We are now living in New port Richey. If you need crew we should talk.

Super interesting video. thanks. I want to switch to an ePropulsion just for the weight beneftis and im tired of seeing fluids in the water after a start the outboard. Also, This trip is on my bucket list. My sailboat is 21 feet would I have a problem going through the docks solo? Are the marinas along the canals at la bell and indian town free if you just want to dock for the night? I'm in Miami I would go north cut through the Okeechobee then south and cross florida bay back to miami.

I would not have been able to do the locks single handed. The marina in LaBelle is free. It's a dock and the dock in Moore Haven is something like a few dollars a day. Both were interesting stops.

Hi Dav great video, your video is making me to consider installing an electric drive. My only concern is the battery set up. I was wondering if you could elaborate how you built your battery system. Thanks

you won't regret going electric. if you watch my earlier vide at the link below i go over my battery build. I can give you more info too if you need it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3jMqYqujcmMnZI

I'm working on a new one, covering a compac 23D to electric plus full restoration. The project is taking longer than planned but getting closer

watched another youtuber that does builds using lithium batteries and solar. he suggest whatever your battery bank size is, double it for solar output. say you got 400ah of batteries, he says should be running at least 800w of solar to maintain. more solar the better.

The having electric and being able to cruise debate has already been settled. Anyone who thinks you cant doesnt know anything about it.
