Hi I hope you don't mind me commenting, I am a Mum to a 9yr old Autistic son. I am also a teacher, as a result of both I have read a LOT on Autism and the things that trigger/ help children on the Spectrum. Many children with downs syndrome present similar symptoms/ difficulties as children on the Spectrum. Sensory overload can be a HUGE trigger in children with Sensory issues. Universal Studios was LOUD and Evie and Jude both seemed to be very distressed by the noise level (My son finds noise incredibly painful). We use ear defenders or noise protection wireless headphones to reduce the noise level when he is out. They really help calm him, we have classical music on his mp3 for his headphones. To be honest I would go with the ear defenders until they are a little older. Evie really looks to struggle with Sensory overload, you could see an occupational therapist for support. Or have a look online at the different Sensory resources that are available. For example my son uses weighted lap pad/ weighted blankets to help calm him when he is feeling overwhelmed. I honestly can't possibly cover every issue/ resource in a you tube post but look up Sensory Processing Disorder/ sensory overload/ Autism. Apologies if you already have this information, my heart was hurting for Evie when she was so overwhelmed! Not just for Eve but for you too, my son very rarely has meltdowns now, but I know how helpless and stressed you can feel.

Oh my god thank god you guys didn't go in that Atlantis ride I went on it when I was like 10 and it traumatized me for years my parents didn't think it would be scary either but it has like a 60 foot drop!! Good call for the little ones!!!!!

Why is it that young children love bathrooms that aren't their own and when Mike said to have fun, that just cracked me up. If you go to islands of adventure, there isn't a lot of great scenarios beside Harry Potter. It's really more for young adults if you want to go on the fast rides like Jurassic or rip-saw-fall. The rides bring great experience. Hopefully you guys will enjoy Disney more since the rides are built more for kids and they have great scenarios!!

Poor Jude and Eve. I am assuming they have sensory issues. I have a very high functioning autistic great niece (5) and she would not be able to handle the noise and confusion. A very active day for all. I went there when it was 104 degrees and busy. Not my favorite days.

Poor Evie???? I'm sure that ALL of the children had an exciting day, ups and downs, high and lows...some were excited about all of this wonderful stuff and some were apprehensive at times, it's called "going to a brand new place with mom and dad". Singling out "Poor Evie" because of her obvious issues and assuming that because of the stimulating atmosphere that she'd be overwhelmed and that her OWN parents might not be aware of that is somewhat frustrating. What 'Poor Evie" needs most is to never, ever, ever be referred to as "Poor Evie".
