Isle of Raasay Single Malt Whisky Review

This is a very good review for those who have not tried Raasay. When they released the first bottling, I placed an order with a local retailer, who got me an ‘inaugural release’. It was £100! And I didn’t like it! It was the moment I decided that I would from then on, only taste and buy, not buy and taste. Insult was added to injury when Raasay released a ‘standard’ product at half the price of the inaugural bottling. I put my bottle to the back of the cupboard, cursing(!). Recently however I tried it again and with water , have really enjoyed it. I’ve also researched the distillery a bit more - they seem to be doing things the right way and their impact on the isle of Raasay, in terms of tourism and employment, appears to be very positive.

Definitely a good plan to taste before buying but glad it worked out well in the end!

Totally fair, it is quite distinctive so may not appeal to all palates, guess that's the beauty of it all!

The first edition came out about a year ago in Canada....just recently we received the second edition, so I guess the spirit is a year older, although it is still too new to have an age statement. Ralfy did a good review on it a ways back, so as soon as I saw it was available a month ago I purchased one. Havent opened it yet, but my neighbor opened his and said it was quite nice.

I purchased a bottle of this last month at the local retailer, and find that it has the maturity more of a good 10-year-old than the 6 or 7 years its said to be. Pretty impressive, and bodes well for their future releases.

I detected a mineral/pebbly taste as well, which is a little unusual. It’s a cracking whisky for its young age
