Join me on my first day of my return visit to the Isle of Skye in Feb 2020 - In the morning I Photographed Loch Cill Chriosd, and Blà Bheinn in the distance and then relocated Elgol for the afternoon and sunset to experience storm Dennis making landfall
Loch Cill Chriosd, or as I knew it 'The Hairy Loch' is found in the broad valley of Strath Suardal which provides an easy low-level route that runs south west from Broadford all the way to Torrin on Loch Slapin on the Isle of Skye.
Today the valley is a quiet place, with only a few cottages and farmsteads very thinly scattered along it.
Drawing to the end of the first day of our photographic adventure on Skye. Our afternoon photography at Elgol proved to be quite the treasure trove of compositions and memorable images.
The days inclement and changeable weather created some dramatic conditions and sublime photographic opportunities. simply put the weather was sublime, we simply had every weather condition you can think of in a single day, that you would only expect within a years worth of photography.
I hope you enjoy the video and the accompanying images, I would be delighted to read your comments on the video and of course on the photography which is my main focus.
Please do let me know you favorite image from the day in the comments section below.

Thank Pete, that really is very kind of you to say. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the video and also the images. As discussed before its so very interesting how everyone came away with different images and 'feels' from the same location. I'm already counting down the days to next years annual pilgrimage :)

Thank you both. Yeah, our timing with storm Dennis making landfall couldn't have been any better on reflection. Not much chance of going again this feb coming i don't think. Might have to try something a little closer to home. Probably the Peak District as its only a couple hour drive from home. Thinking snow and mist :)

Thank you Nick, the conditions were something else. I think we had every possible weather type, with the exception of a sandstorm in 24 hours! This continued unabated for the next 4 days. Never experienced anything like it, and even managed to capture the Aurora on our last night too!

Thank you Jennifer, February on sky avg 7° during the day 1° at night, so combine that with a storm force winds and hail, sleet and snow it was rather unpleasant, if you were out an not prepared. Thankfully, I had good equipment and clothing so I was more than comfortable :)

@@JenniferLupine Thank you. When I first started out with photography about a little over 4 years ago, I had no appreciation for having the right clothing and gear, I simply thought it was hyperbole --- roll on my first adventure stood in a frozen lake, for hours at -10c dressed in Jeans/Hoodie and jacket quickly changed my thinking on the having the right clothing.

Thanks for bringing back so many memories Geoff! Those first shots simply stunning and reminded me not to pass a location again!!😂 I must have passed your location around six times always on the way to somewhere else and very nearly stopped on so many occasions but never did. Ha I know the feeling, but on the same token, on Skye you wouldn't get much further than a couple of miles if you stopped and shot everything you come across its that kind of location with so much depth to every inch of it. -- Although :) ..... I wouldn't mind some time right on the western edge of Ireland... that coast and weather! Mind blown.

Nice video and some exquisite photographs, thanks for sharing. You were in my footsteps, I was in these two locations at the end of December 2019, took many photos of the same subjects and with the same Pentax gear but my photos are not quite up to your standard, ....not by a long way! Hopefully I have learned something by watching. Thanks again, R.

Hey Geoff, thanks for leaving a comment on my last vid. I have resultantly take a look at your stuff, and starting with this vid (SCOOOOTLAND!!!) i must say, this set of images in here are awesome. I see a real connectedness to the scene and your vision for the finished PostPr result . The ramp and the waves... genius - and well thought out! Your colour pallete on the land and sea based shots... subtle and thought provoking. Keep it up, and dont be tempted to stop. Ive just subbed to ya! Regards, Ewan (NZ)

Ah thanks so very much for your subscribe Ewan. Your words are humbling and they do go a very long way in reassurance and motivation that I'm on the right path, albeit you cast a long shadow in the standard of imagery you produce and the video production to go with it. I'm pleased to read that you liked the images in the video . The photography is always my focus, and I hope in part that will always shine through and I'll be forgiven for mixing my words and stumbling around with my thoughts on video. In your recent video you mentioned about not planning and just shooting off the cuff, which is a full 180 on your normal approach and how it made for a challenging shoot/production, for me I'm polar opposite and learning how to plan effectively for better story telling and production quality is high on my list of self development. To often, I go out and try to wing the video/storytelling, only to then I find I have nothing to say or struggle to weave a narrative together. I think planning, and better story telling is the key to improving on the video front. Its how I go about learning that is the question. As for Scotland, and specifically the Isle Of Skye, I only picked up a camera seriously just over 4 years ago, prior to that it was photographing my Cats at home :) and a serious health issue, allowed me to reflect upon what was important, a common theme for a lot of creatives it seems. Back to Scotland, Skye is fast becoming an annual pilgrimage for me. Looking forward to 2021 and a return to the North of the island this time. Once again, thank you for popping over to my little corner of YT universe! Stay safe and I look forward to continuing watching your adventures and evolution! Regards Geoff

It's really difficult to say which photo I prefer in this video, great series of images! One of my favourite is the photo at 4:30 and other two favourites are the long exposures at 10:00 and 10:10, they look like oil paintings.

Thank you Fabrizio - So many images were made on this adventure to Skye that its been difficult for me even after a few weeks since, to pick my favourite too. If I had too I think the one at 11:00 is my top choice. The full res version looks stunning, especially when printed on a textured soft white paper.

@@GeoffMoorePhotography That is great too and I also like textured paper, I've printed some woodland images on it and I like the result.

@@FabrizioZago Totally, its the subtle texture that helps brings detailed images to life in print by helping present a little depth and edge to the details. Thinking about it, I still need to hang a couple of images up in my office. That's a job for later today! :)
