This is the Land of my ancestors who first came from Viking raids & loved the Hebrides so much that they stayed until the Chieftains escalated the Highland Clearances. My family settled in Cape Breton Nova Scotia where I still carry the name of my Viking ancestors Thor & the Mac Leod Chieftains known as Donald Allister Mac Leod. I love my Canadian place on Cape Breton but I still hear the Pipes calling me back for a visit where my name still has it's roots. My dad taught me to come into the world we only carry our family name so we should make sure to never smear that name with the evil deeds of life.

I know it's lovely, but please, PLEASE can people stop coming here? It's not a theme park, it's a place where people live, and where our families have been for hundreds of years. The number of people coming here has increased so much over the last few years, it's far too much for the island to cope with - it's disrupting our way of life, and disturbing a really delicate environment and ecosystem.

A couple of years ago members of parliament were taking up the issue that the area didn't have enough young people permanently staying in Skye under 30. This was due to lack of permission in building new housing by the Scottish Natural Heritage, treating the area like a museum. Perfect set up for tourism, yet many people on quick tours won't likely spend much money in the area before leaving. According to the news there has been an increase in littering over the landscape (esp with motorhomes, dumping waste anywhere then leaving). I have no idea how the roads would be able to cope in Skye. The surge in visitors to Scotland is largely down to US media,television and celebrity, so it's possible that the popularity of the area will fade in time. What next - a full crowded beach in Leverburgh thanks to a new 1Direction music video and it's chosen location ;)

It's the same with North Wales but places like this provide communities with a source of income other than farming the land. It's not about stopping the tourists it's just about educating them. I will be visiting isle of Skye next year however I will be doing my best to avoid disrupting the ecosystem.

Dingle peninsula in county kerry ireland is nearly the same .Young families have to move out and the gaelic football club can no longer field a juvenile team.Gaelic football is a religion in county kerry and dingle peninsula has irish speaking areas so the culture of the area is and will be affected.Mostly because of Airbnbs.In the neighbouring iveragh peninsula its even worse carrauntoohill irelands hughest mountain had 5000 climbers in one month and they plan to build steps making it more accessible.While places just as scenic get damn all tourism Irish people stay away from anything to do with fairies.We won't cut down lone hawthorn bushes we have built roads around them.We don't mess with the fairies even if we don't believe in them.Fairies are not to be messed with.Skye being of gaelic culture aswell what to locals think of the way tourists go without a thought to these places.
