Thank you for posting this lovely piece of film. I walked along the trackbed from Shanklin to Wroxall on the 50th anniversary of closure. It's so sad to see Ventnor Station completely closed, and the station at Shanklin a mere shadow of its former self!

Ventnor Station should have remained open on the one line saved from closure.

The Shanklin to Ventnor section was closed because the bulk of the passengers alighted at Shanklin, as that was where the B&Bs and Hotels were, this was determined by BR. Also BR did not have the funds needed to electrify down to Ventnor as that would have needed an additional 33kV/750VDC substation plus connections.
