I can't stand the entire anti-woke KZbin ComicsGate space since I think it's a giant grift, but at least Danny and Vito, for whatever disagreements with them I know I have and I'm sure I will have (and it's going to be a TON because I think the whole "wokeness" thing is WAAAAAY overstated), are at least honest in calling out the grifters and genuinely wanting to see better stories put out there rather than have comics be used as a vehicle to push some right wing political agenda. I've noticed that the loudest criers of "THE WOKE LIBERAL MEDIA IS FORCING THEIR TRANS AGENDA DOWN OUR THROATS!!!!1111" tend to start stroking themselves over the most dogshit quality openly far right political propaganda out there. I actually hate the demand for "apolitical comics". I hate work that has no teeth, work that tells us that "Both sides are equally bad and acting like idiots and we can fix everything if we can all just get along". I'm a leftist and I'm writing superhero fiction myself, and I'm not going to shy away about letting my world reflect my values and I don't care if it triggers babies like the person that calls in. The ONE thing I would theoretically would respect Eric July for is that ISOM is filled to the brim with his ancap ideology. I vehemently disagree with his politics, but I fully support him standing by his ideology in his work and not shying away from it. But one, you have to write a good story with good characters in the first place and Eric hasn't done anything close to that (and unlike this caller, I DID read both issues of ISOM and can say that with confidence), and two, you can't complain about Marvel/DC "pushing politics" when they're doing the same but with politics you don't like. Eric can't complain about, I dunno, Miles Morales wearing a BLM T-shirt when ISOM #1 has a drawing of Eric himself wearing a hat that says "Taxation Is Theft".

I think I like some of the ideas that the books dont really develop into an enjoyable story. I think this is just the focal issue. That makes them meh. Like if we had something to understand why ISOM might react so violently to being "disrespcted". If these things were given more development with backstory. Like the way they showed a little of his trauma with not being able to save that girl. More of that sort of development. And relegate side content that sets up stuff. To this 🤏 much of the two long books. Then I think we'd have something. You can have the supernatural stuff. Just have it tied to the main story. The gang thug hires a demon to fight ISOM(Just as an example). Instead of the hell monkey stuff

Surely, if that was the only thing they were mad about then there would be a number of creators they could go after. Eric has been very vocal in his criticism of other entertainment. He has made numerous videos on his dissatisfaction of the output from other comic companies. So why can't others do the same to him if they are dissatisfied with his output?
