How do you know when you have it at true isometric perspective - i.e. 30 degrees?
@MegWayne6 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! I'd suggest to always work with a grid, and depending on your object, use other geometric shapes over the grid to help you model it (the wind turbine would look better if it were built inside an ellipse for example, or better, a distorted triangle to fit the grid). If it's a rectangular shape, you just have to have 2 edges parallel to one side, and the two others should only be parallel to each other with the angle of your choice. I hope this helps.

Meg Wehrlen Thanks. That helps.

I made the brand guidelines for the company the illustration was for, so I just included them in the file.

Hey, could you give me a short explanation what steps were necessary to give the white plane at 00:54 a „depth“? It was a little too fast for me.
@MegWayne5 жыл бұрын
Sure, so you make a square, rotate it 45° to have a diamond shape, right click, group, and then the grouping will get it to be combined in a "squared group" again. So you can just use the top handle to drag it down and give it the illusion of perspective.

Hi Meg. I'm a big fan of your illustration. I have a question, though: Do you consider Affinity Designer a good tool for icon design? By “good”, I mean you use it frequently in your workflow. I feel like AD is not as efficient as Illustrator in designing icons. Once I've gotten past the “uh”, “ah” jaw-dropping moments, I realize that AD still got a long way to go. It lacks many features that I consider as essential for precise drawing. But maybe I'm so used to all the shortcuts in Illustrator that I don't feel ready to make a full switch to Affinity Designer.
@MegWayne5 жыл бұрын
Hi! And thank you! So I very very rarely use Illustrator since I got used to AD, which was... 4 years ago and I used Illustrator for massive illustrations. The only times I use it now are for the mesh tool and for text distortion. The only thing I'd really want in AD is outline stoke and perspective, but that's it. And yeah I do all my icons in it as it has SVG export :) But at the end of the day, what matters is that you feel comfortable with your tools.

Why don't you use an isometric grid when creating these things? hmm... Cool tutorial btw :)

QueenOfStamford thank you! I feel like it disturbs the way I see the illustration as a whole, and I'm used to the snapping a lot. Good old habits

I understand that :) But anyway I checked more of your videos and its great all time so any video is great for us I think :) I purchased Affinity designer yesterday and I trying to get into, I am just bit confused about separing of tools by that personas (first I was working on to merge them :D what was unsuccessful unfortunately :D) but I rly like this piece of software and your videos is that thing what make me to decide go for affinity :) Thank you :)
@MegWayne6 жыл бұрын
Ohh I'm so glad to read that! Yeah it's basically vector/pixel being separated, I love the minimum loss it provides when working, and people get more used to using vectors instead of rasterizing everything, so nice when you're exchanging files in a team! Let me know how it goes for you after a few weeks!
