Both wanted to spread Communism, however Trotsky was insistent on that being the USSR’s main concern, while Stalin acknowledged that the USSR’s main concern should be you know, rebuilding and becoming powerful enough on its own to be able to be the vanguard of world communism. It would be a wet dream for both, but more for Stalin since (I think) de-Stalinisation was never a thing. Also, Malenkov succeeded Stalin, not Khruschev.
