When some of the hostages were freed a lot of people were killed, when Deif was killed, a lot of innocent people were killed with him. Of course there is Hamas hiding behind civilians. The question is, if this amount of "collateral" is justified. In a different world, where Israel does not have to show strength to survive, this might be avoided. But in this world Israel's neighbours are watching if the country is "strong enough" to "defeat" Hamas and make their conclusions. Unfortunately world wide broadcasted pictures of innocent civilians killed are still better for Israel than pictures of their tanks burning.

This isn't a both sides thing, there is no moral equivalence between a murder victim and their murderer. How many schools and hospitals do you think exist (or more accurately existed, past tense) in Gaza? I don't know that many, if any, still stand. Hamas was hiding under all of them I suppose? Along with all the houses and farmland? Nearly 70% of all (literally all) buildings in the territory have either been destroyed or severely damaged over the last few months. Was Hamas under each and every one of them? all 200 000 or so of them? Seriously?
