As a person who works in documentary/news, thank you for letting people talk in these interviews and being willing to ask the "dumb" questions in the pursuit of informing people. Unfortunately, it is a unique thing in this industry to give people the space to speak. There is so much fear of audience and attention spans, and this shows that the crux of good journalism is curiosity and empathy.

I could very much feel the grief here, and it reminded me that not every supporter of Israel is blatantly anti-Palestinian. However, I was also very grossed out by the rabbi and the protestor talking about how Gazans should have been grateful for what little freedoms they were allowed (in this case, being given a permit to work in areas controlled by Israel)- it reminded me of slavery-era rhetoric regarding the revolts of enslaved people, especially the part about having possibly tipped a server who would go on to be part of the massacre.

I can understand why some would see that, but we need to take into account that many of the workers that worked in Israel, was workers working in generally manual labor jobs, and services. So personally i see it in a way of them literally being somebody that you have rubbed shoulder with in one way or another be it a barista, manual labor and so on. Another aspect is the "little freedoms" aspect. As mentioned in the video, Israel is a state that havent recovered from the 2. Intifada, which we unfortunatly see in the rise of Right-Wing parties in government RN. The more "liberal"/peaceseeking parties have lost mandate, because as mentioned by many people is, that their way of trying to find a solution havent worked, be that because of Hamas/Right-Wing parties or even settlers. Furthermore if we disect what the protester said about "freedoms for people in Gaza", Gaza was/is controlled by Hamas, not Israel. Israel left Gaza first off because of the continued cost of life because of the Intifada, but also as i see it, as a way to make some sort of peace like they did with Egypt, when they returned Senia to them. Israel isn't required to give them "freedom of movement into their country" just like any other country is required to allow unwanted migrants, workers and such into their nations (Finland is propably the newest example of this). Does that mean that Israel can just restrict aid into Gaza, generally no, atleast not after oct 7. because of international law, but before that, Israel is by definition not required by international standarts to give the people in Gaza anything other then the freedom to international organisations to freely deliver aid, which they did deny during the start of the war, because of different reasons one of which is giving Hamas fuel for their continued attacks on Israel. Which is wrong
@melon4200

Being pro-Israel is automatically to be anti-palestine. It is the founding of Israel that has initiated this conflict and displaced hundreds of thousands of people; it is the continuous imperialist occupation of Palestine that has led to thousands of deaths, with Israel claiming more and more land by the decade. Of course, wanting hostages to be freed and civilians to be spared is perfectly justified, wether they be Israeli or Palestinian. But the Israeli state as an institution is upheld through perpetual war, colonization and apartheid, and it has been since it's foundation. Supporting this state as an institution is to be anti-Palestinian.

Tell that to all of the humanitarian organizations monitoring the treatment of Palestinians over the last many decades. But I know, tell us how EVERYONE else is wrong because of some unique hatred towards Israeli people and the only people who speak the actual truth are the super honest and dependable Bibi Netanyahu… It looks like Israel is going to do what it wants without regard for any of its allies or opinion of the international community. Fine, but understand that they will have to live with the stain of ethnically cleansing a people they’ve occupied for decades. The world is watching.

to simply say it is a issue of humanity is very myopic. It is also a deeply geopolitical issue. Namely, since post-WW2, America's vested interest in establishing an Israel state. Consequently, establishing a foothold in the middle east specifically for for western influence/interests. But it's not just America, Europe and the west in general. China is also pro Israel, for exactly the same reason -geopolitical influence within the middle east. And let us not forget the little gremlin in Russia too.
@gruvii206
@gruvii206 Жыл бұрын
I don't agree. Politics is a creation of humanity. This is but one of an entire history of conflicts both ongoing and in the past. The point I am trying to make is that human beings are the ones who face the reality of political consequence and the ones who drive it. Millions of individual perspectives focused by political rhetoric. In 2000 years, how will this conflict appear? Will it remain? Hard to say, but conflict will remain as long as humanity exists. Our capacity for conflict is as great as our capacity for cooperation. I have my own political beliefs regarding the situation but they are not relevant to what I appreciate about Andrew and his team. He can show the humanity of the people on the ground regardless of their perspective. Political issues especially require us to take a step back and exercise empathy towards people we may disagree with. Whatever we decide, to do afterward, rightly or wrongly, we will then at the very least have considered the people that will be affected.

I’m struck by how Alana zeitcheik’s interview ended very similarly to how the conversation with the first interviewee in the Palestine video ended. At first, I was very annoyed by how the Palestinian interviewee refused to engage with the debate. Like how can you not think about Hamas in this conflict??? But then I realized that she was so overcome with emotion that her empathy just couldn’t stretch any further. Exactly what happened with alana. It doesn’t make the logic consistent or right, but it’s real. It’s how real people respond to trauma. Amazing reporting as always.

8:15 this is the part that baffles me. I know it’s not a direct comparison but Israel has only existed since 1948. “We are willing to share that with Palestine” as Israel has slowly since 1946 chipped away at the side Palestine has control over until now where it’s like a couple cities only. Don’t even get me started on the completely surrounded parts. It is PALESTINE who has been essentially forced less than 80 years ago to “share” with Israel. Your ancestral home means nothing. Nothing. North America is the indigenous people’s ancestral home if they came in and took control of Texas and pushed out Texans and said “well we lived here 2000 years ago so this is ours and now you Texans gotta deal with it, you can have Dallas and San Antonio but every few years we will take parts of those too and we just expect you to be cool with it, okay?” I mean what are we talking about here. This rhetoric is wild cuz they truly believe it and since that’s what they believe there can never be “peace” Also: I’m not Jewish and I despise terrorism. I legit have no dog in this fight this just seems like common sense to me. You’re shocked that the people who truly lived in a place are fighting back against you when you moved in only a couple generations ago all because of what some westerners decided? That’s like the “we’re all trying to find the guy who did this” Tim Robinson sketch

Your comparison with native americans isn't equal. Native americans didn't have a religion that dictates they live in any particular place in the world. For Jews, their god gave them Israel as the promised land, literally a gift from god. Their motivations are not the same. It shouldn't be shocking to you that a person who believes in god thinks god is the most important thing in existence, ever, and will act accordingly.

what I've taken from both of these videos is that there isn't just a (very strong) moral and ethical reason to not attack civilian targets, but a logistical one - it significantly hurts your side of the conflict as it blinds your enemy into a rage, making them a lot more likely to commit the same ruthless atrocities back. It feels like with the Palastine and Gaza conflict this reciprocal inhumanity goes back so far that I don't know if there even is a possibility of peaceful resolution.

Thank you. This is the video I have been looking for. I learned more in this video than I did in the 15 others I watched about the conflict. Violence begets violence. I pray for the people caught in the middle.

“Abraham was the first person to recognize that the world had a god” WILD belief tbh
@monkskrill
@monkskrill 6 ай бұрын
why are you offended by the spiritual superiority of judaism when basically all religions essentially have a belief they are the superior and correct religion? the jewish belief system is that the world was polytheistic and abraham came up with the concept of monotheism, or having one god. that's just what jews believe. christians believe that same monotheistic deity gave birth to a human son that said you have have to prosthyletize and make everyone else believe in me to be saved. is that a less wild belief to you?

Thank you Andrew. It is hard to find journalism willing to explore the different takes on both sides of this conflict. I commend you for going to both a Palestinian and Israeli rally. You are doing it the right way and your audience is grateful.

Andrew when you asked “why” - he talked about Israel, but the prompt was about Egypt, which is important
@Kukulkan_Tours

Yea he didn’t answer the question at all. Gaza was pet of Egypt at one point. Gazans are not Israeli, why should they be free to go into Israel? Yet there were all sorts of public and private programs to employ Gazans inside Israel.
