Cleansing with water is a symbol of cleansing (but also of spiritual death and of resurrection in God as new life). Through immersion in his death we were buried with him; so that just as the Messiah was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too will have a new life (Rom 6:4). This anticipates what redeems us now, the water of immersion, which does not cleanse us from dirt, but is a vow to keep a good conscience before God, through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah (1 Peter 3:21). Thousand years is not literal as with so many other things in the Bible it is a symbol. It is really hard to open one’s mind to all the symbolism in the Bible, clouds, stars, sun, moon, weeds, goats… on and on but once you understand that the 1000 years is simply at the right time

John Calvin was right the apostles could not fathom that it meant anything else other than the end of the world. That world ended and it's in the ground, destroyed, and even some of it melted. The stone buildings (heart) were removed and Israel received a new heart. A new kosmos began.

​@@TexasCoffeeBreak7 Excellent! I believe you have a good grasp of the "kosmos" or "world" that Jesus and His disciples were NOT of. That old world was not of the Father. The ruler of that world was called the Devil and Satan. The pagans who were worshipping in the many pagan temples of that age were offering sacrifices to demons! That old world had to be destroyed and its leader thrown into a bottomless pit. IMHO

The "elements" melting with fervent heat in 2 Peter 3 does not refer to the removal of God's law. The law of God is good, holy, just, and spiritual. Holy Spirit filled men like Paul and G.K. Beale are subject to the law of God. Only the carnally minded person will not submit to God's law. It is written on the hearts of those who are born of the Spirit of God. The words of God are Spirit and they are life for all who believe. Christ spoke the words of His Father in Heaven. The words of Christ will never pass away! It was the old covenant that passed away in the first century. Not the law of God. Jesus is called the Lawgiver! Don, I believe you contradicted yourself in the debate with Dr. Carrier at the 1:14:52 mark. First you said they died to the first principles of Torah. Then you said they had need that someone teach them again the first principles of Torah. Lol. Why would they need to be taught again something they had died to? This is the verse you were commenting on--- Hebrews 5:12 *New King James Version* 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. the law of Moses was done away with in 70 AD and the law of Christ came into effect with the new covenant. Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. The law of Moses just does not work under the new covenant as it is a contradiction.

Go back to Cain and Abel and faith is demonstrated as being righteousness, while works of the law are shown as Cain's unacceptable offering Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
