After lunch on Mount Carmel, we drove through the Valley of Armageddon to Tel Megiddo. Ancient ruins from as far back as 7000BC. Many layers were dug through, and to this day it still is an active Archaeological Dig Site. Most impressive were the 6 chambered gate that Solomon built, the remains of 12 expansive horse stables and an ancient pagan altar dating back 4800 years ago.
We then “Yalla’d” back to the bus and drove into Nazareth. Modern Nazareth is built in a bowl of a valley surrounded by hills on all sides. At the bottom of this “bowl” is the only spring in Nazareth. It was at this spring that Mary, Jesus’s mother went to mornings and evenings, to get water for her household. Up until the middle of the 20th Century, the spring was still used for water via a fountain that the water had been diverted to. The water no longer is diverted to the fountain, but the original well and spring has been covered by a church.
After visiting the church and spring, we took a little break and visited a street vendor, who was making freshly squeezed Pomegranate / Orange juice. Absolutely refreshing and delicious!
We then went and looked out over the city before proceeding to our Hotel, where we would spend the next three nights.
We stayed at the Ramada Inn of Nazareth, and were greeted by a very jovial Host who offered us Fig Juice, sweet and cool. We then explored the Hotel before settling down to dinner. Some of us took a dip in the very clean and refreshing pool before dropping off to lala land, dreaming about the day’s adventures and what was waiting for us to experience on the morrow.
Again, a huge shout out to Jamie Mire, Galiano, and her husband Stephen Galiano for allowing me to use their beautiful photography in my video to help tell the story!
