Japanese attacked US - and Arabs attacked Israel. Japanese lost and were under US occupation - and Palestinians lost and are under Israeli occupation. But Japanese, unlike Palestinians, understood that they have a future, built a western society and signed a peace treaty with US in spite of the atomic bombings. Palestinians on the contrary are stuck in the past. That's the difference.

I am glad you guys voiced this and talked about this together. I too was on the logic of "I condemn Hamas" before I converse about Israel and the IDF. I no longer feel that need after Abby's explanation of the rationale of why they force us to think that way. It makes so much sense, and it made me almost laugh at the freedom I now feel discussing this topic.
