As I said in a previous post, I have a 44 mag desert eagle mark 1. I called magnum research before ordering the parts and by providing my serial number, they were able to tell me that I had a late mark1 (made with all mark1 aesthetics but with a new mark 7 frame. They told me that I should be able to convert my late mark one to a mark XIX, but that it might need some fitting. so I decided to go for it. Worst case scenario I’d sell all the new parts. Today I received my desert eagle 50ae mark XIX complete slide assembly, barrel, recoil spring assembly, gaz piston and magazine. Everything was fitting well together but the locking mechanism wouldn’t lock on the barrel lug. So I had to polish the barrel lug to get it to lock. Then, the slide wouldn’t close because the bolt would make contact with the rear lips of the magazine so I also had to slightly grind the rear of the mag lips. Now everything seems to functions properly (the magazine is a bit tight and won’t eject freely but I’ll take care of that later) Hopefully everything works out great and nothing bad happens to my next trip to the range! (I don’t see why anything would happend since the frame has the same strength as new ones and everything locks up well. If anyone wondered if it was possible, it seems it is with a late mark one to a mark XIX . Now if you have a early mark 1… I can’t confirm it. Hope this helps😊

5:24 I like this part of your video because in hindsight all someone needs to do is just show it and they really don't have to shoot it to eliminate a threat 🤭.

I would NOT recommend buying a US made DE. I have two MK19's, one made by Magnum Research, and the other IMI. Cost cutting has lead to Metallurgy and optimization issues with the American DE's. Despite that, they still command the same price. The new Magnum research magazines have also been problematic in my experience. I had to resort to using the early IMI magazines and modified Promags to keep my gun running. My recommendation to any potential DE buyers reading this is, wait and track down a IMI or even an IWI model.

There are a few other variations on the MK1. The trigger is not adjustable. The barrel on early .357 doesn't have the caliber stamped near the muzzle because in the beginning there was only .357 before .44 was added. The cocking serrations were different (shorter up front). Some .357 had just a single spring but I can't remember if that's older or newer tbh.

Have an early Mk1 made in 1985, that doesn’t have the caliber stamp on the forward slide. It’s a great weapon, but very finicky on which .357 ammo I use of 158gr, otherwise the slide won’t cycle correctly.

Thanks for the video. Mine is from the mid-eighties and there are three issues I had: 1. It's very particular on ammo. Only good 158 grain works for mine. 2. I had to mark my front site to bring it down from its 100yrd zero 3. You have to be careful not to put the return springs upside down or the connection plate will break. That being said, this gun is awesome

@2011 SHO Kona The small connection plate on mine has a rounded edge on one side. This matches up with the slide

@2011 SHO Kona The spring plate has a round edge and a sharp edge. Sharp edge side should be DOWN, resting on the slide frame

Really great video. How durable has been the .357 ever since? Anything that broke? Also, can you get parts for the Mark1?

I Heard from magnum research that late mark 1 (wich had newly designed mark7 frames) could also be converted into a mark XIX (needing a costly full conversion kit including the mark XIX slide assembly , barrel, gaz piston, bolt and recoil spring assembly) Anyone ever tried it or heard about this?

Wish they would have discontinued the gun after they left manufacturing in Israel. Would of made it a way more iconic gun & collectors item. What’s the point of a desert eagle if it ain’t from the desert.

Which hot 357 mag ammunition are you using to successfully cycle yours? The only I've found so far that works for mine is PRVI partizan PPU, but I'm looking for a secondary.

This new one is a MK7 not a MK19, USA model are MK 19 I believe.

IMI made the MK1, MK7, and the early MK19s until they changed to IWI who then proceeded to make them until Magnum research brought all production here to the states. I have a really early MK19 marked IMI on the slide.

I'm a bit confused on mine and hopefully you can help. My Deagle is pretty much the same as your Mk19 but it is made by IMI just like your Mk1. it has the grips and engraving for IMI. What Mk would it fall under?

Your best bet would be to call magnum research and provide them with your serial number. With that on had, they will be able to tell you when It was made and what model it is. Also they will be able to tell you what can be done with it (conversions and caliber compatibility) Hope this helps

I have a MK19 which is also made by IMI. Both of our guns are most likely true MK19s but just made before IMI privatized and converted to IWI. The MK19 came out quite some time ago.
