Israeli resident Dafna Rousso on the Hamas attack | THE WEEK

Dafna Rousso and her family lived in kibbutz Kfar Aza, 5km east of Gaza. On October 7, they woke up to the sound of sirens. Soon, she and her husband, Uri, heard gunshots. Hamas operatives had arrived. Uri immediately left to join the community brigade. The IDF later told Dafna that he had died defending the kibbutz. Dafna speaks to THE WEEK about the day that changed her life forever.

Your husband would have said goodbye or given kisses if there was time. He loved you and your family from your description. What a hero. Selfless. Brave, strong, on a bike with no protection. Only a pistol to protect himself and community and he saved the Kibbutz from six killers. So much to be proud of. Sorry for your loss of your beautiful soulmate, best friend, father of your girls. He will help guide you and your deco. He will want you and your family to live a good life since he gave his life for his families. What an intelligent woman and a beautiful nefish. She was my neighbor when I lived in Kibbutz Nachal Oz. To make it clear to the viewers Uri Z'l had no body amour and his personal weapon was a pistol, not an M-16. The border was not defended more than the Mexican border in Texas except we have a fence with sensors. The closest army post was is across the road from our front gate and it was not manned for a proper defense. It was really a listening observation post. Uri's foresight saved his wife and children. My ranch on Lake Abiquiu New Mexico is available for her family gratis - I regret I was not there.

Much respect for this woman. I see people commenting why she is smiling, but people need to realize that is post traumatic stress syndrom!! She can't cope with it, so she is just shutting down, telling a story like a robot with no feelings left at all. It is the worst condition you can have, and sometimes therapy can't bring a person back anymore. She has died inside. I hope she can survive this horrific life without her husband.
