Damon Salvatore in my opinion was a guy who's inability to attach to things emotionally because of his childhood and Teenage time got rectified by him by sharing and giving the relationship between him and the other characters of the show which made him capable of letting things go which inevitably lead to him funding his peace. Teaches us that although we might have done bad or immoral things in the past but the time we realise it from within the path true peace begins.
