Glad it was helpful! The ones that are offered currently are different because the Precision Nutrition Course (offered by ISSA) replaced the original ISSA one. So, the ISSAA Sports Nutrition Course IS different.

I'm from Brazil and there I have a college degree in Nutrition, but I'm in the USA doing an exchange program to learn English, and I'd like to take advantage of being here and take some nutrition classes that would be a plus when I go back to Brazil. My question is, would you recommend me to take any of these classes from ISSA since I'm already a licensed dietitian in my country? Thanks in advance!

If you are already a licensed dietitian Brazil, and have a degree in Nutrition, I would look into the ways you may be able to become licensed in the US because it may be possible! First, I would do a Google search to find out what the requirements are to become licensed in the state that you are currently living. Each state is different. Then, I would look for courses that would fill any gaps in the requirements. A good place to start is www.nutritioned.org/state-requirements.html Let me know how you make out with it! Best of luck!

Aimee, I started off taking the PN1 and I got it last year. I took up the ISSA Master Trainer Course and I mentioned to ISSA that I already have a PN1. They even let me exchange the ISSA Nutritionist Course with one more elective course. I have 5 elective courses for my Master Trainer Course rather than 4 elective courses. Of course, I paid extra for PN1 if you look at it but I will have 2 certifications instead of 1 and I have 1 more elective course. PLUS, no essay writing. Certainly worth the price to take both separately.

That's really great! Apparently, I was one of the first people to upgrade my ISSA to the Pn1 course last July. At that time, ISSA did not know what to do and I really I had to fight for the credit from it! I hope all the trouble I went thru helped others!

You're welcome! I think that if you tried to buy this course from ISSA now, the only way you could get it would be to purchase the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification course. Because it the old ISSA course was the same content - they just repackaged it and changed the name. The only other option through ISSA, currently is the Sports Nutrition course. The Sports Nutrition course does come with books, but it is different - I did not take this one. But, I reviewed the Table of Contents online and the material and authors are different from the PN1 course. I did review the first chapter of the Sports Nutrition course, on the ISSA website and it looks like it's a good course too. In fact, I may eventually take it because it focuses more on athletic nutrition. If you haven't taken any nutrition courses and are looking to get certified the ISSA Sports Nutrition course is the less expensive option - at least at this time - so it's something to consider. I can't say if they have videos - but, most ISSA courses do come with videos in the guided study area - you can always ask them. Ask ISSA if the PN1 course is the same as the the ISSA course! It was back when I did it but that may have changed!

Hi Aime! I'm trying to decide between the two courses. Does the ISSA course go over behavior change as well? PN just seems to really focus on nutrition coaching. ISSA seems to be more focused on personal training. There are way more reviews on PN than the ISSA course... I still feel like I don't know what ISSA is offering with their nutrition course while PN has SO much more information about what you will receive and it looks to be more put together. Right now, the ISSA course is cheaper though... I'm torn.

Hi Stacy! Honestly, the current ISSA Sports Nutrition Course is different from what I had because mine was put together by PN for ISSA. My review was for people that had purchased the old course, before PN Level 1 was available. If I were doing it now, I would go with PN. And, yes it does address behavioral change.

@@chadskiles4396 If you purchased a week ago, then you have the newer version of the ISSA Nutrition Course. My understanding is that the version of the ISSA Nutrition course that you have is different from the older version that I had. My course was developed with Precision Nutrition (before the PN course existed) - which is why when they introduced the PN course, I was offered an upgrade to the new version that is branded as PN-1. As I explain in the video, your textbook is different from what I had: Your textbook is Fitness Nutrition which was not written by the same people as wrote the book that I had. If you do want to take the PN-1 course, I believe that you have to register for the course separately instead of "upgrading" because it's a completely different course from what you have now. Does this make sense?

At the time I took the course, the Pn1 course counted toward the Elite Trainer certification. That was in 2020 when I posted this video. You would have to reach out to ISSA and inquire about its current policies.

This is a good question! Nutrition Coaching courses are not going to provide you with full day meal plans. A nutrition coach is supposed to help people understand how to eat, rather than just providing meal plans. Everyone is unique so there's no way to provide meal plans that would suit everyone.

I am currently been struggling to write the essays!! It is SO hard to me. The studying itself went pretty quick, I did every day as much time I found as a mom of two little ones. But these freaking essays... and the English language is not my mother tongue either...I thought I would have been done with everything over a week ago if it would have just been the multiple-choice questions :(

It WAS the same. The current offerings from ISSA is a Sports Nutrition Course or Precision Nutrition. They replaced the course that I'm reviewing in this video with Precision Nutrition. The other course may be different - I haven't taken that one.

Finding it very frustrating that ISSA chooses to hide the fact you HAVE to write 6 freaking essays to pass the Nutritionist certification. Every thing I've found only talks about the exam (multiple choice) and NONE of it matches up! Some says 200 questions, others says 120...my husband had 100 and now has to write 6 essays? This is such a load of crap! Very disappointed in this company right now. Only saw 1 person in the comments mention the essays and she sounds like she is struggling with it also. I know there is nothing you can do about this, but I hope my question saves someone the money we threw away on this course.

I’m sorry to hear that! Yes, ISSA does have essays on most of their exams but they did away with them on the CPT course. They’re not that difficult to write though - just time consuming. I hope your husband writes his essays so he can get the certification
