I like to find an Irish pub to buy a Guinness to get an idea if things are cheap or expensive. It seems Guinness is still around $7 even in cheap countries where a regular beer is like $3 or $4.

Did you have any issues with extortionate transaction fees when withdrawing cash ? Heard in Turkey it’s pretty bad, but there are select banks you can avoid these high fees.

I try not to use debit or credit cards when I travel. My flights and rooms are booked online using credit cards so I just need spending money for food and things like museums and bars. I like to bring cash with me and have the credit and debit as a back up. If the fees are too expensive to exchange cash, it may be worth it to use the debit card at ATMs. For this I use Charles Schwab. It refunds all ATM fees worldwide and gives you good exchange rates (I think about 1%) as long as you do not agree to let the local bank do the exchange for you which is usually a huge ripoff.

@5:58. These are "Stuffed Mussels" and are cooked. They also contain rice. They are a type of street food and are popular in Turkiye. They are actually good after alcohol, not with alcohol. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuffed_mussels
