Great video. I wonder if you can get a part number for the seal of the driveshaft. I'm trying to get a pair for some time and i always fail to get the exact part. The seal that seals the driveshafts to the diff bracket. Ty in advance

Hi can I please ask your help? I done my Holden Rodeo axle seal, CV seal and new CV joint. When I removed the old cv the circlip holding the axle seal wasn't there so just came apart when removing. Got it all back together but, the spline that the CV joint goes into had some play in it. Does that mean my needle pin bearing is gone? I took a video of it. The spline would sit in place but fall loose if not held

Can you clarify which spline you are referring to, and also which side you are working on? Also what year is your vehicle?

Hey thank you for replying. Ok so passenger side, Holden Rodeo 2008. Shift on the fly housing. So installed a new CV and seal, bearing seemed fine. The outer spline, so the first spline that the CV slots into. The spline where as in your video when 4 wheel drive is engaged the actuator slots over both said spline. It was loose, so I'm thinking is that because my needle bearing is gone and needs replacing?

@@deborahbarton8337 If the outer bearing is OK and you still have a lot of play, the needle bearing would be the likely culprit. It's what holds the end of the CV joint.

@@MudOilnGears sorry for the delayed reply 🙏 so if I take the housing apart, I can replace it yes? I seen there was bolts to get into the housing. I'm just wandering if the stub diff shaft I think it's called? Would need replacing while I have it apart. But there wasn't much metal fragments at all in the main front diff and in the fly shaft housing so that's a good sign. Oil was very dirty though, and because the axle seal was gone the oil in the fly shaft housing was dirty as dirt etc was getting in.

@Rick Sánchez the oil required is 80w-90 gear oil.

Interesting system this shift in the fly stuff. What year was your rodeo?

This one is a 98. The system is similar throughout the second generation (98-04), but the later models (00 upwards I think) use an electric actuator instead of vacuum. The rest is the same.

A video about rebuilding one of these would be cool. How do you remove the diff cover? I believe you need to remove the axles first, right? How do you remove the axles?

There is no diff cover. You can only remove the complete third member. The axles are removed by removing the four bolts that hold the brackets onto the diff.

I've an older model, without the shift on the fly module. You need to remove the axles first before removing the third member? You just need to remove the plate bolts and pull? Thanks.

@@greasyHands66 That is correct, ones the four 17mm head bolts on each side are removed, the plate together with the bearing and axles will slide out. And yes, this must be done in order to remove the third member.

I could do it. Thank you! My diff doesn't have the pro shaft connecting plate. Any ideia where I can get one of these? I'm also missing the prop shaft lol. Will I need to custom make a new one?
