Isuzu Trooper ll exhaust sound 5.7l V8

Just rebuilt the top end with a Summit Racing RV cam and lifters and new rods. New 76cc chambered heads and a set of headers. My 1986 Isuzu Trooper ll with a 94 Chevy 5.7 motor and a 95 Suburban 4l60e transmission. Upgraded from the Stock 89 S10 blazer 3.42 difs to a to set of 98 3.73's. 4 wheel disc and no more drums. The new aluminum 3 core radiator will be here tomorrow. The cam has about 40 minutes on it right now. After the radiator is in I will adjust the valves that you can hear ticking in the vid. It started out with the 2.3l and then a 4.3l now the 5th motor a 5.7l. I have a 350 four bolt main from an older Corvette that will be bored and stroked to a 383. I'm shooting for the 500 HP mark but there is a ton of work to be done so it will handle the torque.

Ah man, my first car. Learned to drive stick in my trooper. Almost rolled it a few times. Had the 4banger in it. I want one now to mod and just go ham in. Nice ride man v8 sounds incredible.

Do you still have the same transmission with low-high 4wd? I think my 88 or 89 had that extra stick for low-med-high or maybe it was just low-high.

No, it sits on a custom frame I made with a 4L60E trans.

UPdate, 2/16/2022 my Trooper has been sitting for the last 3 years with damage to the block. In a couple weeks I will find out about a 6.0 LS out of a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. It got T boned in an accident and only has 23000 miles on it! Waiting for the insurance company to declare it totaled. I will try and get a video if I get the truck.

Do you have videos of the engine bay and the suspension set up. I learned to drive stick in a 86 trooper with the 4 banger. Makes me want to buy it back

Interesting. So you installed the front suspension and diff from a Chevy Blazer? What oil pan did you use or did you modify the stock one?

I used a Kevco oil pan and a 1989 Chevy frame that I had to cut in half and lengthen 4.5'' to match the wheel base. Its now got a 1998 rear dif with 7.73 gears and disc brakes. The front dif will be done this summer.

Is that 5.7 mated to the 2.6L transmission and does it work with the oem 4x4 system?

No. The frame is custom to fit the Trooper. It is running a 4L60E Transmission and the suspension is all Chevy.

Start off with a MAU5 Manual or a stronger 4L60E. A TBI 350 swap should be fairly easy.

Thats the transmission used for the 350 swap, so if you can change out the bellhousings, it may work.

Question about the rhino lining... ... did you spray it on? How do you apply it?

I rolled this on like 14 years ago. It was not easy and I had to do it in the shade leaning presser to one side of the roller so there would be no roll lines shown. Over the years I have recoated it several times, every 3 or so years with a total of around 8 to 9 gallons. Its held up extremely well but fades and cracks after a few years in the Nevada heat. I have used a couple different liners and the best as been the Dupli-color coating.

Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Every part from the motor mounts to the frame I had to custom fabricate, It took me years and it all depends on what you want. I am currently building a 1982 Jeep Wagoneer with a 5.9L. Same thing, from the frame up. Take your time, do it right and it will be worth it. Good luck with your project.
