my 83 s10 blazer would still be on the road if the body hadn't been made out of whatever scrap metal they could get their hands on at the time. I still have it, put a 4.3 with a quadrajet in place of the 2.8 boat anchor, but sadly it sits in back because of the poor state of the body.

Dana 60 axles with 5.29 gears, four link suspension, aluminum flat bed and a fully custom cab that resembles an old power wagon mixed with a Willy’s pickup and a little Suzuki samurai while being a hair smaller than the Samurai I’m planning on using the Suzuki samurai transfer case because in two high it has a gear reduction of 1.4 to 1 and for the transmission I’m considering a Samurai or nv4500 or possibly a tko 500 because of the .63 overdrive and the truck wouldn’t weight more than 2300 pounds any info or pics of your truck

Mike Hunt i've owned (9) 1st gens & (4) 2nd gens (pick-ups, Blazers, Jimmys in both generations) with a couple of really oddly ordered trucks in the mix. 1st gens were always the nicer looking truck imo, yet the biggest downfall of any S-series truck was in the engine department. If racked up plenty miles on some i've owned, yet their low power output & fuel economy was what killed their marketability in their class. I'd still be driving a 1st gen if i could've found a reasonably priced 4BT.

Rich, the Isuzu 4bd1 and 6bd1 are some of the best engines they made. They can be found in white 2-65 and 2-75 tractors Hitachi excavators and many Japanese construction equipment built in the 80s and 90s, because they are not popular in North America they should be cheap to find, they go well and you can bolt a turbo on them. They will never do what a b series Cummins will do, but they are honest little slugger's Great conversion on the S10! Full credit to the owner

oil in the clutch cable LOL. use a "dry graphite lube" spray can and "cable injector", it wont dry as fast inside the cable, but it also wont gum it up in freezing cold. in the past I've used that on many cables, but mostly speedometer cables. it often beats replacing the whole cable pair and I often sprayed it backwards from under vehicle inwards! (wrap rags/towels around the inside so it doesn't blow all over)

My dad had a '82 Chevy Luv Diesel. Best little truck we ever owned. 45mpg all day long until I lost 5th gear in the transmission while driving back from hauling hay when I was 14 in 1995. There was 275K on the odometer at that time. We drove it for 5 more years with 4th gear as the highway gear and still got 38MPG but you had to wear ear plugs to drive it. The water pump gave out in it around 375K miles and we couldn't find a replacement, so the truck got traded in. Think we got $100 for it.

I bought a 87 gcm s15 4x4 back in 2011 it had a 2.2l isuzu diesel the previous guy swaped it in she was a little under powered but 1000km-1100 per tank was nice. it needed a a rebuild as it was drinking alot of oil. after some research i decided it wasnt worth rebuilding. i loved having a diesel engine in it, so i threw a 1.9l tdi with bigger intercooler turbo injectors etc now its making 160 hp and about 350 foot pounds of torque alot more than those 62 ponies and 93 ft lb torqure that isuzu could put out haha.

G'day from Australia. Isuzu vehicles had been sold in Australia under the GM brand "Holden" since forever. Check out some Australian sites under Holden Rodeo. You might find what you need. GM sold Isuzu small sedans with diesel motors in them in the 80's. Isuzu has a great reputation in Australia and doing it well. GM is sinking faster than the Titanic.

@@der_pinguin44 That would be a good choice. I think the Atlas I6 would be wicked in an Impulse, but the firewall would have to be dished out - not a lot of space between the firewall and radiator. For that matter, a Pontiac Solstice would make for an interesting swap donor for a RWD Isuzu.

Back in the 90's my dad gave me his Isuzu I-mark diesel. I loved it as a gift but it had about 40 HP and could not make interstate speed with a headwind. Blew a couple of timing belts and because it was an interference engine the rocker arm shaft was destroyed twice. So...on the second repair I gave the car away. GM also used the same engine in some it's dinky crap cars...Cavalier I think.

My first vehicle was almost an old, pretty well used Isuzu Pup with the 233. My folks (we had a used car dealership) and I were often at odds about what vehicle I wanted. Several older Chevys with semi hot built engines which never happened. My mom trying to keep me out of trouble. Probably wise. Always a diesel nut, I gravitated to this Pup. That idea got the ax for my safety sake too. Definitely not for being a hot rod but for being dangerously slow and merging into a busy highway was like russian roulette in the Pup. Cool truck but dangerously underpowered! Much like a Mercedes 240D with an auto. Manual trans wasn't as bad of a sentence to be charged with. I miss my W123 300D.
