Throughout my 22-year career as an engineer with double degrees and licenses in electrical and mechanical engineering, I have had to perform numerous design calculations. However, during the construction and commissioning stages, I have often found myself making adjustments and revisions due to factors that I had overlooked during the initial calculations. While it was relatively easy to make these adjustments for electrical and mechanical designs, I wonder about the complexity involved in large civil constructions where mistakes can have far-reaching consequences on the environment, structural integrity, and other factors. Considering the potential consequences of mistakes, it is crucial to carefully consider every factor and conduct multiple reviews to ensure the project's safety, soundness, and long-term benefits. I commend Slater and his team for their ambitious undertaking and hope they will uphold the highest standards of engineering excellence.

One of the reasons why progress is so slow in the Philippines is because some people are not willing to think outside the box to achieve progress coupled with tons of red tape. Foreign and local investors have to hurdle through the narrow mindedness of the few and lengthy government processes compared to our neighbours such as Vietnam.
