Another great installment .....I am so glad i rode the Tanami in 2011 on my pushy...it was ALL dirt and no pavement until close to Alice ...Rabbit flats had just closed so i had a stretch of 750km of no water I was carrying 40L on my old steel bike it was a HELL of a good time ...the Quarries were my favorite place to camp....Loved the journey....Thanks Steve for showing us all the Beauty of the Tanami!!

Geez Aaron, are there any shitty roads here in Oz that you haven’t done (other than the CSR)? 😂😂😂

@mongreldogproductions car is definitely NOT a road, it's 2 wheel tracks between spinifex😅 it's beautiful.

Thanks for your video. Last time I was there was in 1978, when we were doing exploration for gold/copper. There seems to be a lot less shrubs and small trees than I remember. I like watching your videos and listening to your commentary.

Thanks for another great episode. I'm so hoping to do this in about 4 weeks but to see a fairly recent video of the conditions is great 👍

I spent a couple of years at the Granites, great experience back in the 90's . Summer was as hot as hades but luckily low humidity.

Looks like a real work out for the suspension, and the rider! We have nothing like this in the States. Loved the footage.

You have to add a little perspective here. For guys like us who want a little "adventure" here, doing the Tanami is maybe a bucket list thing. But for many who live there, or are trying to make a living out there, the road is a joke, and if not sealed, at the very least should be getting a whole lot more love than what is usually does. I've completed it once, no hurry to go back.....

Didn't stop at the wolf creek crater! Haven't driven the Tanami in a good two decades, was pretty brutal last time I drove it. Battering. Thanks for great video of amazing country Steve.
@mongreldogproductions2 ай бұрын
@@BalefulBunyip I’ve done the road three times now over 14 years and seen improvements each time. It was on my list of ‘roads never to do again’ but I’ve been back twice. Just drive to the conditions and you’ll be fine. Thanks for watching.

Personally, I'm sad to see so many outback roads becoming bitumen. However, I can imagine how expensive it would be to maintain them with all the rain we've had over the recent years. I'll be taking my significant other to ride the Great Central road in around 4 weeks time. Thanks for your great videos Steve.
@person.X.2 ай бұрын
The problem with bitumen is that once you put it in it is a huge and expensive commitment to keep it up to scratch particularly in a harsh and remote place like the outback. If they are not maintained they become a nightmare of deep, hard edged potholes. A gravel road can easily and quickly be graded after rain damage etc.

Another good one thanks Steve. The Tanami track is one of those roads I have always wanted to drive but I am not prepared to punsh my 4WD to that extent. Let alone towing a caravan!

Cool Ep and spots. I did the Gibb up to McGowans and back and then the Tanami and plenty around 6 weeks ago all were great roads I was in my old 80 series towing my 5m tinny.

Thanks Steve, I 'm astounded that you can do 110+ on some of those roads. (saw your GPS)
@mongreldogproductions2 ай бұрын
The BM sits on those roads at those speeds pretty comfortably providing YOU feel comfortable at those speeds. There can be some ‘oh shit’ moments if you are not focussed on the conditions.

Thanks for the videos mate, I’m like you a crusty old digger, we just bought a ural and are relearning to ride a chair. Last time was at the PMTRC in pucka in the 70’s Anyway a question if I may, looking at a 2012 1200GS beema, it’s got what look like mags and road tyres, to do any serious dirt stuff, do I need to buy spoked wheels to put dirt tyres on, If you are in Maidenwell, give us a yell, we have 5 acres so plenty of room and probably a soft bed if you can handle some comfort Thanks mate Bob Carlos
@mongreldogproductions2 ай бұрын
Hi Bob, you can fit off road tyres to those rims but for any serious off road stuff you should consider spoked rims. If you hit something hard enough with the cast rims you may crack the rim. Spoked rims are stronger, cast rims are lighter. Everything is a compromise.

No…but it is a work in progress. The last 20km short of the Highway is sealed with a lot of work going on at that end. There is still a lot of unsealed stuff out there at the moment. Thanks for watching.

Did this in a 4wd in 2019 A bit over 1000 km of sand and corrugations, little to see and you have to be self sufficient Won’t be doing it again, would like to do the great central road 1:16

Another great vid Mr Steve. Just a thought, maybe Mrs Steve could join your adventures in an ultralight? Certainly beats all that dangerous vibrating bike stuff and safer too as long as she takes a few lessons in flying and lying. Mate, you know I’m right, the channel will lose its mind! Dead set.
