I really hope that the engineers at ineos watch this, because I dont always think the engineers truly understand how and where these cars will be used out in the world. And that is the one thing the cruiser has on ineos is the trial and error over many many years. If Ineos listens to customers who use a car like you, and adapts and updates I have no doubt they will do very well.
@3TZZZАй бұрын
Except that the Toyota Landcruiser has barely evolved despite all the 'trial and error over many years'! It’s a dinosaur, with a rear wheel track narrower than the front! Terrible road dynamics, noise levels and still the appalling ride and poor articulation of horse and cart springs! The INEOS is more refined in every way and yet it is super robust and the real deal off road too. Despite the INEOS being a new model, it is already way out infront. Toyota should be ashamed, especially of their ridiculous pricing on vehicles that have seen virtually no improvement over decades. The Toyota miasma is bizarre, as Ronny has inadvertently shown, by demonstrating how awesome this INEOS Grenadier is in comparison.

@@3TZZZ why is the Australian devotion to Toyota, Nissan and Land rover "bizarre"? If you knew anything about remote Australia and the consequences of breaking down in it, you would know that the majority of experienced overlanding Aussies will always go back to the tried and true "dinosaurs" instead of the over engineered, high tech long term unproven circus acts that the inneos and others like it are. Size, range and dampers seem to be the main negatives of the Grenadier. Not too bad for a first attempt. I'd like to see the same journey done in a new Defender 110 to see if LR really did miss the mark and by how much. Although, looking at the number of Defenders sold I suspect LR achieved what they set out to do.
@stevegreen101Ай бұрын
Yep, made it less hardcore, widened the appeal and have sold more. The irony is the new Defender was designed as part of the push to be a million vehicles per year manufacturer; and now they've given that up and looking for less than half that volume.

@avalanx Glad to know. I wish them well. It would take alot to pry me away from Toyota 4x4 ownership. Indeed I maintain that if you want an off road tourer in Southern Africa, nothing comes close to Toyota. It's a complete no-brainer. Mahindra is doing brilliantly and are getting great market penetration. But they are competing on price. Perhaps Grenedier would be served by a bare bones iteration, pitched at the farming, utility, NGO and military markets. But I suspect their marketing strategy is high-end. At least for now.

@@nickgood8166 Hey Nick, I completely agree with you. I absolutely love my FJ Cruiser, wouldn't change it for anything at this stage in my life. She burned 19.3 l/100km on a trip! I have a D4-D Hilux Vigo twin cab auto now. I'm a happy bunny. It does the job well with outstanding cost of ownership. FJ is a petrol Prado 150 auto, reskinned and abridged. It's very capable indeed.

I like so much about the Grenadier, but the two biggest issues for me are the small fuel tank. It’s something that needs a proper underbody solution. 130lt would be ideal if at all possible. It’s not a deal breaker though, I’m sure the aftermarket industry is not far off from the answer. Unfortunately though, for someone who’s 200cm tall, the floor lump makes it impossible to own. I fully understand why it’s part of a RH drive vehicle design, but it’s just not able to be ignored or put up with! Maybe importing a LH drive vehicle would be an option, for someone with my height? Love the look, the capability, the awesome driveline, interior design and features, and the fact that someone who’s a real 4WDer put his money where his mind is, and actually built such an awesome truck! Maybe in the coming years, another exhaust system could be introduced that eliminates the need for the hump! Great review series mate.👍

@@SeanGreenhillHonestly I think it’s more to do with how people are scaled - I’m around the 6’ mark and after a 20m test drive I was super uncomfortable. While others have no issues. I was super keen for one until that drive, I think leg length etc and also what your seating position is like has a difference. Another good example is Pajero Sports, the centre console bar thing drives some people crazy but others don’t notice it.

It's the visual "over-design". It looks very cool in stock form but is right on the edge of being bit tacky as the design borrow quite bit from G-Wagon now too (as hood lines), not just Defender and every visual detail has been pushed to limit of being over-styled. Add mod stuff around it and it looks bit comical. Same issue with all highly styled vehicles (G-Wagon, New Defender, Lexus GX550, etc..), they look great in stock but don't mesh well with the brodoser additions. The 70 on other hand, starts visually so simple and under-stated, it still looks good even under shit-ton of mods.
