My heart breaks every time I see him because it reminds me of how there are so many talented people who never realized their potential because of a lack of a mentor, guide, or advisor who truly cared for them. It’s clear Freddie didn’t have that. It’s not his fault - when you’re young, you are prone to errors of judgment, so unless you have a parent or uncle or mentor who cares about your development, you won’t really learn from those errors until it’s too late.

Freddy didn’t get the protection he needed. The American media made him bigger than life and when he went to Europe, he realized that he wasn’t as exceptional as everyone had told him he was. I grew up in the banlieue of Paris, talents like Adu are pretty common.
@aeyjay9550 Жыл бұрын
He got exploited in some ways, but he should have went to a big club in Europe by 15 and developed and trained, he had speed, ball control, but he never truly reached his potential, he relied mostly on natural talent, he was a kid just having fun, unfortunate he didn't have the right people around him, it was also the US culture of soccer at that time, he should of been putting 2, 3 hours extra training daily, proper rehab, healthy diet, preparation, big clubs wanted to sign him early on but they were tryingnto build up MLS, so he kind of got pulled into that lifestyle too early and didn't feel the need to put in the work, sad tale, bottom line is he never truly put in the work, this happens to a lot of players though, he didn't learn the tactical game, watching him play, and I think he just got lazy so it is what it is.

He was literally given everything on a golden plate and chance after chance, including trials at MANCHESTER UNITED, never understood why Man United released him.. now after hearing all these confessions of unprofessionalism, can clearly see why they released him early now. Imagine being a teenager getting trials at Man United and you never stayed behind, never tried to improve, never came to training early etc, just did the minimum needed and think he deserved a contract at Man United. Just looked up his pro record, no wonder its beyond dreadful.. he is the epitome of how the media can make or break you. Never deserved the recognition he got, even the opponents he was performing against were the lowest calibre/age/class/group or players in the world, of course he was going to look better considering everybody else in the US football scene at the time basically had two left feet and 0 pace.

Freddy had smoke blown up his ass from the start, he was never physically strong enough and didn’t possess the footballing brain to play at the top level consistently and thats why the top managers never picked him. Rooney played in the premier league at 16, went out partying, drunk and ate like crap and still got it done, reason is because Rooney really was that good and not a hype job. Freddy seems like a lovely guy, people should be honest with him because doing interview acting like he was Ronaldo but didn’t win a World Cup ain’t helping him.
@aeyjay9550 Жыл бұрын
But Rooney had more discipline and had top players around him to hold him accountable so he had to prove himself on the pitch, he had a top manager and needed to train hard, work hard. Freddy never did that he was playing in much lower level league and never took it seriously enough, no one there to truly hold him accountable, just underdeveloped talent and when he went to Europe he didn't have the discipline, think about a guy only training twice a week and slacking off in practice that was Freddy Adu, he was never forced to develop.

The problem from the start was the media hype. Sure he was great at U17 because no 14-year old was as physical as he was at that level and looked amazing against teens way older than him, but fast forward to age 19... he wasn't dominating the MLS like Alphonso Davies did at age 16 or had a more meticulous development stage like Pulisic at 17. He was actually an average young player that played 4 seasons at an inferior league and maybe that wasn't enough to prepare him for the reality of high-level European football. At least someone like Altidore (same age) had a breakout season in the MLS, didn't let disappointing seasons in Europe ruin his entire career (he had 3 full seasons as a regular), and he was still good enough for three World Cup campaigns playing in two.

Freddy didn't have a professional mindset as he was only 14 and poorly guided. His talent and knowledge of the game didn't develop. He can't blame choosing a move to Monaco as a reason for his journey man career. He was too entitled before moving to Europe, he was his own worst enemy. I always wonder what would have happened if the USMNT would have given him a chance as he brought something raw and special, he could have been our Gio dos Santos, not solid at club level but a beast with the National team.

Mans said the next Pele, now that’s a bit of an overreach 😂
