Shout out to Marcus for mentioning Terror in the Aisles as that was my personal version of It Came from Hollywood. As a kid I’d watch that shit it on repeat, running my bootleg VHS ragged. It’s also what turned me onto De Palma. I soon had to track down Dressed to Kill, The Fury and Phantom of the Paradise as those were some of the clips shown in the film.

Well, to me the worst movies are not these old drive-in "B" flicks that get mocked on MST3K, but these big dumb lumbering mega-budgeted action "blockbusters" that are currently pumped out by Hollywood and are lapped up by the contemporary mainstream masses.

I feel like there are parallels between these types of films, and David Lynch, except that Lynch is a master filmmaker, executing it on another level, yet still he is able to present some of the same emotions you get from these absurd/wtf films, having said that, I think it would be great to review Inland Empire, which is far from his best, but still great, and lends itself to be a better discussion than most, I know you did Mulholland Drive recently, but hopefully you’ll get to it🤞

MUST WATCH a movie called "The Devil's Hand" from the early 1960s. Closest thing I can think of to cheesy low budget film that David must have seen as a kid or teen that rubbed off on him.

The film with the big bird you wondered about is called The Giant Claw. I was one of the people who rented both It Came From Hollywood and Terror in the aisles from Crazy Mike's Video in Missoula. Wish you could have expanded your show ro 2 or 3 f****n hours for this topic.

Excellent episode & Happy Birthday Tom! I first got into bad movies by accidentally renting LaserBlast on VHS - it was terrible but I had a blast, then came COMMANDER USA, and shortly thereafter MST3K.

Happy very late birthday, Tom. Fantastic conversation. So many movies added to my watchlist. Yes - the Cramps! Terror in the Aisles was a repeat watch for me on Showtime. Evan, I'm sure you know this same vein runs through some comics, too. Daniel Clowes, Charles Burns, and Richard Sala vibing on very similar eccentric cinema. 1:07:00 I just recently watched this as Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster and sincerely enjoyed it. 1:07:55 - what is the singing jungle queen movie?

Every time I read someone say "this is the worst movie ever" I tend to think "they need to watch more movies." Ya'll have seen some movies, so when you add it to a bad list that makes me think you know some things. I like that mix tape aspect. I've seen a few remixes of serials cut down into "new" movies often with new dialogue or narration.

I think the secret to the bad movie is that the movie promises something, but reveals to be something else, something particularly worse than we thought.

I dot get that sentiment in all honesty, I hear all the time "that wasnt what I expect it". I just dont get that, I dont expect anything from any movie beyong being entertaining.

@@xLordOfNothingx Not the viewer expectation, but what the movie tells you and promises to have, like Bela Lugosi starring in a movie, and when you watch it, it's just Bela Lugosi in three scenes and the rest is an imposter. That's funny in a schlock way.

I was introduced to the Golden Turkey Awards book in high school . Around that time "Plan 9" was being shown on a local station ... at 5 Am in the morning! And they also showed The Creeping Terror. No VCRs in 1980 so I had to wake up early to watch it. I remember renting "It Came From Hollywood" on VHS in like 1983.

Well, before Something Weird Video the company Rhino Records had put out a lot of these same kinde of movies in both home video and soundtrack records. There was also another tv showcase on the USA network called "Captain USA's Groovy Movies about the same time as Elvira and before Up All Night. Also, a lot of college campuses started having "worst" movie festivals about that time I remember.

Godard said good movies and bad movies do the same things. One doesn't know why a thing works in a good movie, but by watching bad movies one can see why the thing didn't work.

I think Evan had a hard time to keep his eyes open, it was probably a long day ....btw, Michael J Weldon mentioned a few times (in his two Psychotronic books), the name ''Ghoulardi'' a.k.a. Ernie Anderson, who was a late night horror movie host on tv in the early 1960s, who's child made later on the 1999 classic ''Magnolia'' lol

47:00 Amazing COlossal Man (1957) and the sequel War of the Colossal Beast (1958) both discuss why the Colossal does not want to continue growing. Many people overlook it for Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958), but all are solid giant folk films and much better than later Attack of the 50' Camgirl (2022).

Well, Blood Feast, it should be noted, was not "laughed at" when it was originally released - it actually made people scream and vomit. That flick was a pretty strong shocker back in its day and is actually regarded and revered as a PIONEERING film by fans of the modern "Splatter" movie genre. Anyway, I always had the impression that the comedy in THAT movie was INTENTIONAL. I mean stuff like the killer getting crushed to death in a garbage truck (that he takes to hiding in while fleeing some cops) and the Inspector says to the garbageman "Pal, you just did this town the biggest service its ever received!", .. . now don't tell me THAT wasn't MEANT to be funny.

I have five of the Medveds' "Fifty Worst Movies of All Time": "That Hagen Girl," "Robot Monster," "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia," "The Trial of Billy Jack," and "The Omen" Two of those are now considered classics. The worst Billy Jack film is actually "Billy Jack Goes to Washington." I know this cause I got the Billy Jack boxed set and watched all four films. "The Trial of Billy Jack" is fairly ambitious compared to the other films, but "Billy Jack Goes to Washington" is just a blatant rip-off of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." "Robot Monster" is bad but endearingly so. "That Hagen Girl" was something I caught on TV many years ago and was astounded by how it ended. Imagine a teenage girl getting married to a guy she once thought might be her father. Now imagine the teenage girl is played by Shirley Temple and the older fellow is Ronald Reagan. That's the movie! I was thrilled when I finally got it on DVD.

Hey fellas, New, viewer of the show(Holy shit does KZbin punish you guys for the naughty swearwords or whatever the fuck, such a creepy excuse to demonetize and hide you guys away, but please don’t change. I lay down 25 bucks a month for premium, I feel like I deserve some adult “content”, So you guys absolutely hit the spot there, I really appreciate you guys taking a bullet to present the show that you want to make). So I’ve been voraciously devouring your Back catalog. You guys also have the first show that I have contributed to. I am a fresh MOMEN, I’m in the cult baby! That being said, I think I’ve earned the right to have a hand in your programming haha! 2 suggestions, Take them or leave them, I just think A breakdown from you guys would be extremely interesting, and provide even more insight than I already have, being Two of my all-time favorite films. First, Ken Russell’s The Devils-If you guys could do It off of the “rape of Christ” cut,( I have a bootleg with pretty lousy sound of that cut, there was a crispy one on tube a few years back so I’m sure a good one can be torrented) Even better. The second being Jerzy Skolimowski’s The Shout. And if I could also add, I think it would be wonderful to have the lovely and insightful Remy sit in as both films have central female characters that I think she could provide an even richer take on. OK, Just request, requests, take them or leave them(please take them!ha!). Also, I have to say that beyond the enormous insight, you guys have on film and film makers, etc-MUSIC-You guys have taste that totally delighted me, you guys will drop some obscuro proto-punk bands name, always appropriately never going for like cool points, so I was very happy to find that you guys were just as immersed in interesting great rare music as you were the films, It blows my mind every time you guys do that And like I said, it’s always natural and pertains exactly to what you guys are talking about(i’m not saying “more of that please” haha, It’s just great and drew me in closer-like These reference points don’t exist elsewhere outside of my own mind, so geez, did it make me a fast fan. OK, so enough of me polishing your bonafides, I can’t wait to dive into the commentary tracks that You guys have created as well as extras. You guys are a cut WAY above Other KZbin film criticism channels(Yes, I did see you thumb your nose with your middle finger at the mere mention of RedLetter Media Tom haha). OK, absolutely love the show, keep it up, I’ve been recommending it like crazy to my friends, and they too are with me on the “this is the coolest film cast on the tubes” tip. Yours truly, NAI
