I said this once to a friend because it’s like hello I would like to know before I start reading if a major character is going to die. Like I’m still gonna read it if they will but I’ll save it for an angsty mood. BUT LIKE NO IT’S JUST A SURPRISE. I haven’t read a real book in like 4 years because I just have a million ao3 tabs open but like… how did I function before that? How did a pick up a book and just not have a general idea of the tone and stuff? How have normal books survived without tagging? Why have they survived without tagging???

@@lisahenry20 You don't even have to go that far. You can keep the books sorted as they have been, and have a computer search system sort them by tags and list where you'll find them. This requires very little change to what's already in place.

So mandrake is an actual herb, it just has a lot of folklore attached to it. It has a root system that looks like a little guy and because of that people used to use it in a lot of medicine… funny enough they weren’t entirely wrong, it does technically have medicinal applications that checks out with what they were using it for. Basically it’s a potent narcotic and hallucinogen, so it was used as a painkiller. Though at one point or another it was claimed as a cure all for just about anything. But yeah, no they’re not just a fantasy thing, real plant, and their roots actually look like a little guy.
