Not watched it all, but put important files on an external hard drive and give to your son/daughter/parents/friends. Encryption or not is your choice. Meanwhile, look after theirs. Update regularly. Yeah, you need to buy a bunch of external drives, but fire can't get them all, aka you can get the files back.
