I have waited for years to buy a Squale and am very happy to own this watch. You are right, it is chunky; but, being built to professional specs, the sapphire crystal is 4mm thick. It wears similar to my Seiko Marine Master and Sumo divers. I love it. Thanks for the review.

You are right: 500 m, helium valve and a 4 mm crystal. I don't think it make sense to complain about the thickness of the case. This is a collaboration with a company famous for the advanced subsea technology, I expect nothing less from this model. There is the Squale 1521 if someone wants a slimmer case and doesn't care about helium valve and higher water resistance. Moreover this case is very, very similar to an old Blancpain case made by Squale.

Great insights, Andrei! This one always struck me as a bit big. I'm a big fan of the 1521 and the Sub-39, which are both more balanced, and in my opinion the way to go! Would love to see your take on those lines. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

I do love the look and vintage feel of this diver, but you made an interesting and important point about the lug holes and how the straps wear. Appears to wear a bit top heavy anyway and that isn't helped by the lug hole placement. Thank you for another great review and hope you have been having a wonderful holiday season!

Did you know that Squale Drass Galeazzi case is identical to Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Military 3H Bund case which was also made by Squale /Von Buren. Military 3H Bund was manufactured for the German Navy combat divers in 1976. This watch was never available for civilian use, and only ever Military issued.

I pulled the trigger in this when it launched and was very excited when it arrived. It looks great in my opinion. However, found it almost unwearable- too top heavy and thick for my liking. I flipped it within a week.

Nice watch and yes I also see several watches in one with the dominant model to be Blancpain ff. Perhaps the ceramic bezel gives in my eyes that effect, with of course the difference of the crown at 4 o'clock. I don't like the bracelet absence, am a bracelet guy and want additional straps. The box reminds see me $100 Chinese homages, at least all what I've seen in KZbin come with such box. Nice watch, said that already, but overpriced. Objective and well worded review, as always, if I didn't like or wouldn't buy the watch is irrelevant. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, enjoy it in good health and looking forward to the next review. Stay safe.

I guess we all have opinions, what drew me to the Drass Galeazzi were pretty much all those things you find incomprehensible, it's shear 1960's vibe, it looks and wears like very few - if any of the current crop of divers watches, that said I've obviously ''bought into'' the retro dive watch scene having also recently bought an Aquadive Poseidon.

I love Squale and have or had 15 Squale Divers in my collection. But this watch is too thick and clumsy for me. There are much nicer models (for example the Squale Limited Edition diver down) where the proportions fit. Thank you for the many beautiful watch presentations and the great shots. Leather straps in the water is no issue. You wear leather boots in the rain... Also the height is not neccesary an issue, it depends a lot on your wrist. I wear my Seiko MM300 daily and I have zero issues with the height/weight.

It's a diver fantasy watch. It looks amazing, but when you put it on, you notice is too heavy and way too tall. It's a watch that could have been one of the better ones, but instead it makes the company look lazy.

I owned two different Squale 1521, when they still used to cost a normal amount of money. Great watches, but the lume sucked big time unfortunately, a big let down for a diver.
