It was easier than you think. In the 90's after the fall of communism across europe many armies were selling them for pittance. My dad was with the Polish armed forces and as one of the few that could speak english back then and was helping during the auction. Some of those t-54/55 and t-34 were sold for literally a pound. There were many buyers from the UK that had to deal with the complications of transporting them back to the island. One of the buyers was a guy with his own tankodrome doing joy rides for people. Probably some of those ended up on movie sets across the west.

@ashroskell3 жыл бұрын
Not a bad place to start at all. I grew up with bond on TV mostly, but still remember being a child seeing From Russia With Love at the cinema. Though I don’t recall it at all. (Obviously I know the movie, but not from that memory) My first cinema experience that stayed with me was Diamonds Are Forever, which gave me nightmares. I was still pretty young, and the finale, in which the gay duo try to kill Bond, who sets one of them on fire, bothered me for years to come. The guy who played that character was not really an actor but a famous musician, so I never saw him again and a part of my child’s mind thought he was really dead. Weird, huh. Anyway, the game of Goldeneye revolutionised gaming and created a landmark that drove the market forward in unexpected ways. Many in the business argue that there would be no GTA or Doom, had it not been for that game.

@@Gamer_Man_Bathwater Yep. If there were fewer plot holes (and that really bad place near the end, where the story basically stops), GoldenEye would be among my favourites too.
@PLAYER_420693 жыл бұрын
The GoldenEye score is it's a mix of both synth and orchestra because a lot of the action scenes have cellos and other orchestral instruments above the droning synthesizer beats. It makes for a very uneven score, but an effective one, oddly enough. Martin Cambell's decision to go full and classic Bond theme for when the tank burst through the wall and the subsequent chase was the right call. The chase is also the mid-point of the movie that leads into the final act, so the tone of the movie shifts from that point on, too.
@ashroskell3 жыл бұрын
Uneven is right. Compare the two throw away scenes: when Bond photographs the speed boat that Onatop arrives at the Casino, we hear strings, not doing much but setting a diegetic tone in a very elegant manner. But that is something of a relief after the earlier scene when Bond first lays eyes on Onatop, racing her in his Aston Martin with his psychologist squirming beside him. Half of me wonders if she’s really so alarmed by his driving technique, or if she’s squirming at the god-awful funk guitar that screams Carry On film, or lame Starsky and Hutch rip off! It’s a moment that feels a little Austin Powers anyway, but the music makes you laugh out loud. For me, the occasionally great, but more often than not misfiring score, is the biggest drawback of an otherwise rather brilliant Bond movie. It’s still one of my favourites of the canon, in spite of the score.
@kahlzun3 жыл бұрын
it also very clearly tells you who is driving the tank in that moment, elevating the shot

I think what makes the scene iconic, was that it was Bond in the tank taking destructive shortcuts in pursuit, whereas traditionally Bond would be in the getaway car doing his damnedest to keep himself and the girl alive. Great twist on the chase scene and give Bond a different vehicle to drive.

I wonder if Martin Campbell will return to the franchise for a third time to direct the new Bond, since he was so successful introducing both Brosnan and Craig? Many would argue he is the best living Bond movie director, certainly since the halcyon days of Doctor No and Goldfinger, who gave both of those actors their most successful outings as the iconic super spy? I sure would. No doubt it will be years before they get around to it, but with so much money to be made, they will do it. I can’t think of a better choice than Campbell myself.
@Pavelflash3 жыл бұрын
Unlikely. The reason is simple. The age. In two years (Let's suppose producers will be able to get back on the two year routine + they need to find a new actor!!! ) he will be 80. For a director of action films (or let's say with lots of stunts and action) it might be limited factor. Look at Clint who directed Cry Macho at the age of 90 and compare it with his films he directed 20 or 30 years ago. You can see the tempo is slowing down almost on the level of soap operas (and he never directed action films!). I think Martin knows it as well. (When Martin directed GoldenEye he was 50) I would not be surprised if they asked somebody younger, why not Cary Joji Fukunaga again who will be 46 in two years? 🙂
@alwaysOPEN4business3 жыл бұрын
I do remember him doing an interview sometime a few years ago where he said the only way he would direct another one is if they got a new actor. Considering Craig is done now and there will be another actor for the next one, my fingers are crossed they get him back.

One of the most iconic chase scenes in any Bond film even to this day. It embodies the over the top nature of the franchise, but also the relentless nature of the Bond character that's always hinted at underneath. What is ironic is this '90s version of Bond is very similar to Daniel Craig's bond with his unwavering, monk-like devotion to Queen and Country. GoldenEye and the preceding film, "License to Kill" are my top two favorite Bond movies because almost all the stunts are done practically because CGI was just starting to take hold in those early days.
