The Mitsubishi evo 5 4g63 engine gets stripped down to assess the damage to the engine. Upon inspection there is a serious crack in the crankshaft journal bearing. This was caught early which was very lucky

Personally I think 450-550 bhp as it would be a beast of an Evo and tear up the back roads and the track.
@TheMRTVID
@TheMRTVID 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm - its that balance of power, money and having the brakes to stop it I guess. My EVO does big power, but everything else is rated for it plus a full cage. 600 is way enough on the road - multiple maps ? - then kinda sensible, fruity and mad options ?

@hassannaqvi4512
@hassannaqvi4512 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that turbo but from experience 500 whp is just about drivable on the road... Anything over 600 bhp would render the car to be a track weapon only. Saying that technology has probably EVOlved (pardon the pun, lol) over the last 5 years so more power may be useable on the road

The more I watch these videos the more I think this is a REAL car enthusiast channel. No cheesy intro, lots of technical knowledge and tips, all about the car and the builds, no unnecessary flashy garage setup. Love the fact you remain anonymous too as it shows that the channel is purely for the love of cars and not an attempt to boost your ego or become 'KZbin famous'. Keep up the good work.

Not sure if it’s the engineering Mitsubishi have put into an engine that’s impressive or the knowledge you have on so many different cars!! I feel like I’m a couple of videos away from my very own engine rebuild from what I’m learning from this 😆 glad you caught that crankshaft before it snapped, imagining that big chunk of steel flapping around in two pieces inside the block is a frightening thought!

Save money I'd say, but after spending so much on the pistons and con rods seems odd to skimp out of the crank. The crank would have lasted a lot longer if it didn't loose oil pressure though.
@MrLorenczo
@MrLorenczo 4 жыл бұрын
@@DomBounty Well, as Aaron mentioned, there was something done to the crank where it wasnt durable anymore so maybe they just forgot or they had lack of knowledge, maybe they were sick of it and thats why they sold it. You never know what stands behind these things, unless youre the person that did this.

Lack of oil
@DomBounty
@DomBounty 4 жыл бұрын
In the previous video he explained that the previous owner had performed an oil change, and put the required amount of oil into the motor, but as the car had an oil cooler, once the car got up to temperature the oil cooler kicked in and sucked at least a litre of oil out of the sump which caused the engine to loose oil pressure which caused all of this damage.

Not challenging your knowledge but if I'm not mistaken the flywheel on this motor will not really gain much by skimming it if it has suffered heat damage... It may be better to replace it. Please let me know your thoughts 👍
@DomBounty
@DomBounty 4 жыл бұрын
If it was a dual-mass flywheel I'd personally replace it, however, a single mass flywheel can be skimmed (will save the owner a lot of money). If the flywheel has any cracks, even tiny ones I'd replace it as well, however, as this flywheel looks to only have hot-spots, skimming it would be ideal. Once skimmed I'd check for any further damage and evaluate it then, but it would be worth the cost imo. This is only my opinion from very little experience, but thought I'd share my thoughts anyway.
