33 years old and still love this album. In my top 10 for sure. Depravity Waltz was one of the heaviest songs in metalcore when this album dropped. That breakdown like 8 seconds into the song just hits like a freight train. Every song is gold.

@@FEBRIZIOtv 32 and agree. First time I ever heard of it dies today was in 2005 when a good guitar player from my high school was playing riffs from ‘my promise’ in a guitar store testing out a Gibson SG. I fell in love with genre ever since, these guys are way ahead of their time.

Without a doubt. This whole album defined my mid teens, influenced my first successful bands. I saw them 7 times between 2004 and 2008. The first time was with Winter Solstice in Johnstown, PA, on their Caitiff choir tour. It was sold out, absolutely packed. My entire high school metalcore band and all our friends went. Hearing My Promise and The Depravity Waltz live were transformative moments that effected the course of my life. Myself and the other guitarist ended up buying VHT Fatbottom 4x12 cabinets because that’s what they had at the time, and then switched to Basson when they did 🤣 I had moved to drums by that point, so I held on to my VHT longer, and even though our music became more hardcore than metalcore, we were still heavily influenced by these guys. Every time I come back and listen to this album, it takes me back to a very specific time and place in my life. One where the only thing that mattered was being better (and heavier) than the other local bands, having nice live rigs, and going and seeing our favorite bands as often as possible. The best years of my life.

Mid 2000s? We arent even close. This is pretty early metal core though. Bleeding through is earlyer though. I listened to metal core back in highschool 2001-2005. That's when it was big.
@YFZ5210 жыл бұрын
R Saldivar The 2001 to 2005 you just referred to was exactly what I was talking about in my original comment. I just kept my comment to a general metal category as I'm not a genre snob, just meant all metal, whatever you'd like to call it.

snipes0009 I can't disagree...there's few where I'm from but yeah I guess you could say I'm obsessed, with music. I play guitar, drums, bass, I'm a musician obsessed with music. More obsessed with death metal and correcting people when they need help. I'm not a Dick at all in person though

@Psycho Flicks Productions I see your point, but I'd consider originators such as Zao just as heavy (sometimes heavier) than groups like Misery Signals or IDT, and they too employ clean vocals and the same drop tuning as IDT. And they pre-date IDT by about 4-5 years in their most heavy incarnation.

Why do you guys keep saying real metal? Like I said to the other dude. Its full blown metal core(not that its bad). Easy to hear though. Harmonizing riffs=metal, breakdowns+kinda softish lyrics and upbeat sounding=hardcore. Put in a blender and voila! You have metal core. Why am I going on and on about this? Because its 7am and I'm bored. I got the day off from work and have all weekend to Dick around
