Its older than "Germany" as we know today! It is and was a sign as a Medal for frontline Soldiers since the napoleon wars! It was first promoted in 1813!

i come from germany , so i know that german sea rescue ships have this symbol on their ships , so yes you are absolutely right it is not a nazi symbol even if they might have used it , just like the skull symbol

The Iron Cross is only associated with Nazi Germany because it's a *wartime decoration only.* There's the 1813 Iron Cross, there the 1870 Iron Cross and there's the '39 Iron Cross. If - and Gods be good we won't - NATO get's tangled up with Russia over, say, the Baltic or Rumania we might very well have a "202x" Iron Cross, though that might very well be the last one issued... When you learn that the iron cross is a symbol associated with the Teutonic knight order (North Germanic/Prussian Templar Knights) and is a symbol of bravery and devotion to god. It's been around since 1100s

The classic car in the street was a reference to the car that the archduke rode in when he was assassinated. The different soldiers marching, and the woman in the doorway (and the air crafts flying above) are related to different Sabaton songs.

Oh yes, the car => It's a nice and creepy detail (a nice reaction btw!): Around the middle of the video the crowd/parade comes across this very lovely early 20th century ecru-coloured convertible that's standing abandoned in the middle of the street. This is the car that *Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria* and his (morganatic) wife *Sophie Chotek, Duchess of Hohenberg* bled to death in on the 28th of June 1914 in Sarajevo, touching off *The Seminal Tragedy* a.k.a. *The July Crisis* which then obviously led to *The Great War,* sometimes appropriately referred to as *The Apocalypse of the Old World.* This one empty convertible in a very real sense is *the Pale Horse* Conquest rode in on with *War and Pestilence and Hunger* in it's train. I also feel it's a signifier of the level of knowledge that Sabaton by now has reached in dealing with historical matters, especially when compared to their initial albums. I'd venture so far as to ascribe this at least partial to their involvement with historians *Indy Neidel* and *Spartacus Olsen* - they of several large scale Chronological History projects on the KZbin like World War One in Real Time and the same for WW2, currently Korea - and of course Sabaton History Channel... Lemmy performed this stripped down, like a funeral march. This was more grandeous, It was a tribute to the sacrifice of soldiers of all eras, and to honor Motorhead for pointing it out in the first place. I suggest, No Bullets Fly by Sabaton, animated story video

To be fair. just about all Nazisymbols were stolen by the nazi. So originally they had totally different meanings. The swaztika is very old and stands fur Sun and Happiness. The iron cross was made 1813.

@@aviewfromthestage The swastika has appeared in numerous cultures all over the globe and in various eras and has multiple meanings. The big difference is the nazi symbol is tilted at an angle, although there are a few other times it was tilted.

Well not stolen, thats wrong. And swastika has different meanings and different names for it, The oldest swastika is found in areas of todays Ukraine but you dont say hindus stole it. Same with iron cross, not stolen and other symbols.

I did some researching and found that all the names of the soldiers, knights and Spartans in the end were real people. Many of the soldiers were Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Victoria Cross or Croix de Guerre recipients. The soldier pulling himself out of the mud, at first I thought he was a member of "The Smoking Snakes" (Força Expedicionária Brasileira, FEB, nicknamed Cobras Fumantes), but doing some more research with the patch on his shoulder as well as his helmet, that's Sgt Henry Johnson of the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, aka "The Harlem Hellfighters". Medal of Honor recipient and recipient of French Croix de Guerre avec Palme, France's highest award for valor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to him in 2015. Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war." Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in his book "Rank and File: True Stories of the Great War" The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII. Sgt Awal Nur, who did a secret mission over the Himalayas. Lt. Audie Murphy, Sgt. Alvin York are both medal of honor recipients from WWI (York) and WWII (Murphy). I also notice a soldier with the Croix Lorraine on what looks like a French flag arm band, meaning he was a member of the 'Forces françaises libres' forces in WWII. Doing some reading I found out that a large number of French colonial troops from territories such as Chad had joined with the 'Forces françaises libres'. I suspect that soldier is Lt Comba, but I can't find anything on him. As I've been working my way through the names listed in the credits and found another one: Private George Stringer, Manchester, Awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Es Sinn in Mesopotamia. Capt. Dobson, 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, Killed on 9 July 1916 in Flanders.

My great uncle at the age of 16 fought and survived the battle of the Somme, then went to the Paschendaele campaign (Price of a mile) he died on the 3rd November 1918 - 8 days before the official end of WW1. They will never be forgotten. Lest we forget.

It's true that Lemmy collected Nazi items as well as WWI items, but he never wore Nazi stuff such as the swastika. He always wore the German Iron Cross medal on stage, but that is an army medal for valor, and similar to the American Purple Heart. As a military honor for valor the German armed forces have had the Iron Cross since the 19th century. It is not a Nazi thing. The Nazis just also kept using it during their maniacal regime.

I agree with most of your comment except the comparison to the Purple Heart. The only requirement to earn a Purple Heart is to be injured or killed in combat. The Iron Cross is a gallantry award, only given for an act of bravery above and beyond the standard call of duty, in comparison to US medals it would be closer to something like a Bronze or Silver Star. Otherwise yes, your comments on Lemmy are spot on.

@Ryszze honestly the closest comparison would be like bronze or silver star since they only have second and first class's versions or grand cross variant for generals and field Marshall's, usually the bigger ones you see are orders of merit like the Pour le Mérite which if your receiving that, your basically a famous war hero now

The Battle of the Somme wiped out the Fighting Newfoundland Regiment (Newfoundland wasn't a Canadian province at that time). So it wasn't simply 'the English''. You need to watch "Christmas Truce" and research that....and then "Ghost In The Trenches", which is a tribute to the Canadian Indigenous sniper, Francis Pegahmagabow, who survived the Great War with the highest tally of any sniper on either side.

What Sabaton does without equal is the ability to take parts of history and condenses them down in to a song which tells their story while being agnostic to who or what it's about. To them, it's not glorifying one side or the other or war in general but to educate those who may not know these stories exist which may be from those who performed heroic deeds to some of the darkest days in our history. It creates interest, awareness and discussion. So whenever I see people get upsetti spaghetti in the comments that those who do a reaction and mention, say, Nazis in 1916 then they're ultimately missing the point of why Sabaton creates these songs because now they know through these discussions which they otherwise wouldn't have had had they not reacted to this. Now they cannot forget and the memory lives on.

As some have said, the Iron Cross is not a symbol of Naziism. It was a traditional symbol of Germany throughout history. All branches of the German military use it as a symbol of national identification.

There are no random characters or things in this music video. Most have references to some historical figure or event. The Asian and Thompson is a gurkha who conquered Japanese bunkers on his own. The woman emerging from the alley is Milunka Savić - a sergeant in the Serbian army, the most frequently decorated woman in history for her war services. The planes above her are Russian Night Witches.

You should also check out Tommy J covers here on youtube. He was a member of Sabaton and quit earlier this year to move on with his own band Majestica and his youtube career. A few side notes here, the buss at the start is a reference to the live album no sleep til Hammersmith by Motörhead. The two guys standing in the door opening at 4:45 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The guy holding the picture of Lemmy is Eddie Rocha who was the tour manager of Motörhead and the current one for Sabaton.
