Okay I have always thought of John Mayer and Taylor’s “relationship” much differently. I don’t think they ever “dated” officially. I think she was a young girl & he was a player. He made her feel special and definitely lead her on and she probably fell for him and then he moved on. A lot of the songs sound like she was all in for him but it was never really a full blown relationship. John normally owns up to his bad behavior and this is one that he has never owned up to so I low key think most of it may have been in Taylor’s head although I do still think he was in the wrong for leading her on at all when she was 19.
