Rob Halford is an amazing singer. He still has the high and falsetto ranges, but his depth has strengthened with age.

I've seen him live in 2018 and while he still is able to do his high pitched screams it doesn't seem like it's coming as easily to him as it used to. There were moments where he literally took a step back after one. Those seem to take a lot out of him these days. Which isn't that surprising, he's pushing 70

@@Nissardpertugiu you might want to look up what "Falsetto" means
@Nissardpertugiu
@Nissardpertugiu 3 жыл бұрын
@@saschaschneider6355 falsetto is a variety of headvoice when the sound is airy and the folds don't vibrate Its like King diamond . What Halford , Coverdale etc... are doing is Mixed voice with High larynx technique . When your voice is connected and have full sound chest support low to high without break isnt Falsetto . I don't need to see the definition , i can sing like this . And no in my wildest dreams i do Falsetto .

Omg - yes. Great list. Alone and also Death from the Nostradamus album are great. I would add: Freewheel Burning Dreamer Deceiver Sinner Delivering the Goods Anything on the Painkiller album Here Comes the Tears Desert Plains Turbo Lover Heavy Metal Halls of Valhalla Firepower Honestly, it’s impossible to give anyone 5 next songs for JP - they have that many...?

Got to see them live twice. Halford can totally nail it live. Quite impressive. He road a motorcycle up on stage. Downing and Tipton are a great guitar duo. Part of that British metal invasion that influenced a lot of music here in the US during the 80’s.

My first Priest record back in 1976 (around 20 years old by those days), this song is a fusion of two songs. Priest is on their 50th Anniversary and is a never endig trip of good music. Maybe You must check them since '70 to these days. Thanks for reacting to this Legendary song.

Nice reaction- The metal gods, the group that put metal into heavy metal. 18 albums of metal bliss. This album was a huge landmark for metal. You need to listen to Painkiller next to see them at their extremes. So much to listen to. I do think you need to listen to some live stuff- The Sentinel- 86 Fuel for life tour, Sinner- 82 live Vengeance tour, see Halford's raw power.

My son, it is so amusing to see someone so young reacting to a song so old. Even if he was your age while recording it - I humbly suggest returning to this song some 30 years later in your life and you will understand everything.

Great review and reacción. Judas Priest is one of the most underrated bands of the history. They are the metal themself, they construct the base for all the bands that they came later. And still today they do masterpieces that do that the other and newest band sound like childs plating with guitars. Their last álbum, FirePower is the BEST example of It. Please, check Traitor's Gate from the same álbum. 70 years old guitar and singer, remember.

Great reaction. I really enjoyed how took your time to actually listen . Just watching your face told me you enjoyed it. My next suggestion would be "Painkiller" the very definition of Metal! To quote many others about heavy metal " Black Sabbath made it heavy, Judas Priest made it metal!" .

fun fact this song was originally called "whisky woman" and was written in 1969, but was released in 1976 after getting optimised and added to in the storyline of the song, thats what i liked about pre 1980's preist is that they took their time with all of their songs which made all of their songs amazing until well they became commercialised, but after the 80's they do have some amazings songs dont get me wrong but they will ne ver reach this level

This was when Robby was all high range and bluesy wails and though I really love this album and RockaRolla he got so much better a few years later. His control became off the charts. And his diction is fucking perfect.

You need to go on a priest journey. They evolved more than any band in metal. Go to dissident aggressor, beyond Realms of Death, Rapid fire, then Electric eye, The stntinal, painkiller, then Judas is rising. They went from blues riffs to start speed metal. They have killed it for almost 50 years.

Some people call this part of Priest's career the "Blues metal phase", back when you already could hear that this was a metal band (although that category didn't really exist yet) but there were still strong Blues "undercurrents". Great ear btw! As for Rob Halford, he's definitely my favorite (male) vocalist alive. Great range, great versatility, very creative use of his voice - he easily switches back and forth between being a complete metal badass and transporting a lot of emotion and sensitivity. Always gives his all. Not saying he's the best there is, just the one I enjoy the most. If you want a full dose of badass Rob, try Blood Red Skies or (maybe the most metal song of all time) Painkiller. If you'd like a bit more of Rob's softer side, Here Come The Tears comes to mind, or Dreamer Deciever/Deceiver.

I am so glad you listened to the studio version first. Now you can better appreciate the live versions by having them to compare. I liked your take on the lyrics of the song, pretty much what I thought myself. When you mentioned the "growling" at the end of the song, like he was fighting alcohol again, it makes the final 3 "NO!"s and the last scream more poignant, doesn't it?

Never been too keen on this song, for some reason. Too much a story of not knowing which leg to stand on. Just like the first two albums, really (Rocka Rolla and this one). Judas Priest came into their stride starting with their third effort "Sin After Sin" (1977). Funny enough, the first two albums have mostly songs co-written by Al Atkins, their first singer who got sacked before the actual recording of the first album. Singer Robert Halford's sister was dating Ian Hill, the bass player and Rob was in the band in the blink of an eye. Halford had a vocal reach of about six octaves in his prime but by the early eighties his voice started to deteriorate because of too much screaming. Rob's going on seventy now and has remarkably recovered some of his high pitch abilities. There's not too many footage available from the early days, because of them being, well, early. Best stuff I could find is from the 1978 Live In Japan TV show which has a scorching rendition of "Beyond The Realms Of Death" from the "Stained Class" album of the same year. Cheerio.

I kind of agree with you that they came into their stride with Sin After Sin, but Sad Wings of Destiny is lightyears ahead of Rocka Rolla imho. Their performance of Victim of Changes on Unleashed in the East is amazing, it's the same song but with the sound they gathered from Sin After Sin through Killing Machine (Hell Bent for Leather). Having Les Binks on drums made a huge difference as well.
