BIG SAFETY QUESTION!!! Are the caribeaners that are connecting the paraglider to the chair ALSO connected to your harness? THEY SHOULD BE! If your chair suffers a catostrophic failure, like if a weld breaks you want that paraglider to be hooked to your harness. Not the chair. Or at least to both. Only one extended thru his arm. He started his paramotor on the ground and the throttle stuck. He still loved the sport and claimed it was really safe. In 9 months he only had two mishaps. nice build... you have guts to try it... Next time try a bigger engine.. also.. these only turn about 3500 RPM if you leave the governor in there. So get a prop with the size and pitch to make good thrust at that RPM. Or remove the governor.. That brings other concerns too though. Find one with the exhaust on the other side, or use a spacer on the prop. Or just mount a manifold to those bolts with tubing.. bend it to point downwards and then put a good muffler on the end of it pointing down. If you run an engine with NO exhaust you can burn a valve eventually.

Concept is sound. 5000 RPMs the propeller tips may be going through the speed of sound making more noise than thrust. A semitar propeller may solve the compressability problem, but a re-drive unit and a longer propeller may give you the thrust you need if the engine has the power. What you are needing to to do is recreate a HIRTH engine. Why not. These Harbor Freight engines are cheep and hop up parts are widely available. People run Gyro-copters on Harbor Fright 25HP engines. Look forward to seeing your rig fly. :)
@JonasMarcinko3 жыл бұрын
I just did a proper flight with it! 36x12 prop and the cold air. I was getting 4700rpm. I’m a bit confused that the larger prop same pitch gave higher RPMs but it worked! I’ll try and edit the video tomorrow and upload.

If you rebuild that (I hope you don't), at least put a net on the front side of that cage. That will prevent your risers or more importantly, your body parts from getting in the prop.
@cerescop3 жыл бұрын
You need a short pipe to direct the exhaust. Its mostly to prevent thermal shock to the exhaust valve(s). It will in this case need to be a 90 degree to clear the prop. Get a prop sized and pitched for a vw engine. This is just to control tip speed as you removed the governor from the carb.

You do need some kind of exhaust outlet pipe even if it does not have a muffler. Otherwise, cold air will get into the combustion chamber and warp the valves. I would estimate that you should have at least a 12 inch exhaust pipe. You can make it with a sharp bend so that it does not hit the prop.

After the 4th time, it broke through the outer skin of the line, but the core was still good. Tough stuff!
