0:32 I understand what you're saying about the lack of adventurous spirit on the Della Duck storyline, but from my point of view, that's the whole point. Della's Moon situation is not meant to be seen as adventurous, it's meant to be seen as punishment for choosing adventure in spite of risk, and not the adventure that was waiting for her at home. This for me is why I love how the series interpreted Della's character, as they make it clear in spite of all the great things people have said about her to which Dewey only grew further admiration for in season 1, she doesn't come without flaws.

And this is also a world where they brought four 10 year-olds in a submarine to explore Atlantis in the very first episode. You can't use real world logic with this scenario. The rocket only looks so much more dangerous (to the characters and the audience) than their other adventures because that's the thing that eventually went wrong. But it really wasn't as big as escalation as people tend to make it out to be.

I think the reason the first half of the season "drags" a bit is because they wanted to try returning to the more episodic "adventure of the week" format from the 1987 series as a breakafter the season one arc. And I guess it doesn't work for everyone. Oh well.

In this season we have three main arcs, the arc of Louie forming his business Louie Inc, the bet of Scrooge and Glamgold and the Moonlander invasion. The three arcs aren't finish yet, but in the first half of the season, Louie and Glamgold's arcs were the most explored and we only have one episode related to the Moon, but now the Moon's arc is going to have the same relevance the other two arcs.

Around the time this episode released, Disney decided to do a release strategy similar to how they released Amphibia season 1, so The Golden Spear released only a few days before Nothing Can Stop Della Duck. In other words the wait wasn’t dreadful for fans back then, but let me tell you, the entire fandom was in a frenzy after the ending of this episode 😅

SO I believe canonically Donald has the literal worlds worst luck. Basically equivalent to a powerful curse. Him still doing amazing heroic things always showed to me how bad@$$ he truly is. Like the universe needed to nerf him or he'd be too powerful. I do like that they plot Donald out of the picture in this ep since that will allow Della some space to learn without him metaphorically looking over her shoulder the whole time. Also, (kind of unrelated) if you ever read the Percy Jackson series, my head canon is that in those books Apollo sounds exactly like Storkules does in this. It makes every scene he's in in the books so much funnier.

I understand the thinking behind not being as invested in Ducktales because of the plot's pacing and lack of adult leads. It is how I felt during season 1 of Amphibia and the Owl House. But with Ducktales also being a reboot that has lots of ties to the original series and the rest of the Disney afternoon, it's tough to get invested in unless you were already a fan of the Duck comics/universe. However, I felt the opposite during season 2. I felt impatient during season 1 when we got episodes not related to the Della mystery or Lena. But in season 2 I loved (almost) every episode especially how it went into the characters' psychology. The reason it had more "non-plot-relevant" episodes back to back is that it was made not just to reflect the episodic nature of the 80s show but to have episodes for TV reruns. Basically, episodes that anyone could watch mid-season without being lost. If the show came out today for streaming, it not only have fewer episodes but be all of it focused on the overarching story. But I'm kinda glad we got more one-off episodes as it allowed for more downtime for the fandom to breathe. That's just me though.

I like the Moon People. I just feel like the writers could have used other aliens as antagonists. In the European comics there is a comic book series where Donald has a superhero persona, Phantom Duck. His arch enemies are a race of purple -skinned duck-like aliens, the Neuronians (that's their name in my country). Fethry and RockerDuck have appeared in this show. Why couldn't they?

I'm with you in finding the first half of season 2 (especially) too scattered. It was even worse in the original release order, since Lena didn't come back until something like the 14th episode aired. When they do build on the continuity, it tends to pay off beautifully at least. And you still have my favorite Lena episode yet to come.

I think you're being way to harsh on Della. Yes, it was reckless to take the SoS (ha!), but it was supposed to be a quick fly. An accident (which means by definition it's not abandonment, since that requires intention). Scrooge and her both tried to get her back safely when the freak storm hit and caused her crash. It's the same thing as saying it to someone who got shipwrecked because they took a boat ride. And she HAS been punished for it. For 10 years. She's been in what's essentially solitary confinement, lost 10 years of her and her family's lives, and lost a leg. If it were anyone else, just the first part would have driven someone actually crazy.

What you were saying at the beginning, hits home for me, as this has been happening more and more for me as a I get older, I start to look at shows differently, and relate differently. Like it feels wrong to watch teen focused anime because of the humor, yeah I get it teens think that way targeted to teens but as an adult its like WTF am I watching, sometimes, and can take me out of the scenes or story (case in point Potemayo 90% cute funny gremlins, 10% inappropriate sexual jokes involving a minor...yeah it was one tertiary character most of this was focused on, that felt shoe horned just so the series could say its not a Hello Kitty kawaii demographic, like when a youtuber makes a clip of a kid's show but adds some random gore or cussing at the end so youtube doesn't flag it as kids content), but back on point, the relating thing also hits me with high school and university focused movies, like Spider-man, who every reboot, and restart, puts him back in school, despite not being a student for like thirty years now in the comics, or other superhero movies set in that setting, I can't relate anymore, same with video games, can't relate so get bored with the school tropes when playing for instance Shin Megami Tensei V I just wanted to skip the school parts, or Disgaea 3 being a commentary on eductation, yeah I know their target demographic for those relates, at my age I'm not expected to have time to play long video games or watch anime that doesn't involve being hit by a truck and waking up in a fantasy world escape from my unbalanced work/life....but still it has that, second occurence of this in my life, where some series and types I watched in late teens to early adulthood are now not having the same impact on me. Makes me hesitant to go and rewatch some I loved at that time...out of fear of a repeat of when I tried to binge some cartoons I loved as a child but my adult nitpicking mind kept picking the shows apart, and how I got used to arcing story lines and character development so shows from when I was kid (which were mainly toy commercials, designed to have one episode watched a week on Saturday morning) are really different if you try to binge them as an adult. *case in point I now assume everyone who talks about the original He-Man and She-Ra as master pieces better than anything today have rose tinted glasses nail gunned to their temples and not rewatched the actual shows since they were kids. Good for small children but they are what they were in that time, toy commercials, smash them about, nonsense little adventures for kids, the random stuff you'd expect a child to make up playing pretend on the carpet. But now, its like...smashing my nostalgia glasses....last on that rant, Beavis and Butthead, I tried rewatching this and realized why my mother hated me watching that show...I wouldn't have wanted a kid my age then watching it either now.

You know, I understand the criticism of Della taking the rocket right before her eggs were about to to hatch, but I feel like people tend to apply too much real world logic to a universe with very cartoon rules. What Della did is basically the equivalent of a man with a heavily pregnant wife taking a race car to a racing course and getting in a really bad accident. Not very responsible of a soon-to-be parent, but still way more reasonable to going to space in real life would be. The only difference is in the race car scenario, the man probably wouldn't get separated from his family for ten years, unless his injuries were so bad he ended up in a coma.

we need answers why the goddess of the moon was out of the loop on all the moon stuff, it feels like Selene being Della's friend was more a symbolic hint to where she was rather than important. But in these cartoons it can be hard to tell how literal god titles are, like are they actually the god of that thing or is this a multi-pantheons situation and its just a title, or humans gave them these titles and they just rolled with it.

6:15 I never realized that watching a Disney cartoon series was so stressful! I thought it was light entertainment. Della's storyline ran pretty much as I expected it would be -- slowly deteriorating over a period of years until she encounters the moon people. And such yearning for "twist villains" -- you may want excitement a little TOO much! It's like an addiction! You ought to take a soothing cruise on the glassy waters of the Caribbean . . .
