@@possumverdeAmerican needs to pair this plan with other things, incentives for young people to go into trade schools for agriculture, infrastructure, construction, etc. Education and normalization of jobs that are seen as too “manual” or “low” or whatever, there’s a lot of Americans out of work who could be getting into these industries. Deportation can’t be the only bandaid. Also a renovation of the legal immigration system would help a lot. Allowing a greater amount of legal, screened, immigrants from Mexico would allow many of the most useful people who WOULD be deported, to come back through legal means, would be super helpful I think.

I grew up in the agricultural and wine country of Cali, in the 60's and 70's. There were migrant camps all over, the difference was they came over legally with green cards. They were the nicest, respectful, kind and generous people ever. They came, worked their butts off for the season then went home until next crops. That is not what is flooding our country now.

Yes same in So Cal!! Same timeframe. I remember too!! I was a young girl at the time but I remember. My mother would go to the fruit stands by the fields because they had the best produce. She explained to me these were poor people, good people, and proud. And also how they believed in hard work. She said they all had kids back home. I remember the Mexican women smiling at me sometimes as they worked. She taught me to respect their work ethic and honesty. They were here legally to pick crops, lived in employer provided housing onsite and were paid the going minimum wage, which went a lot further in their country. They were hardworking, caused zero problems, didn't take any Americans' resources and were here LEGALLY. After the work season was over they left with their American dollars and went home happy to their families. Every year they returned, LEGALLY. None ever tried to remain in the country illegally that I know of. This is fine. In fact it's win win. This idea that ONLY illegal immigrants can do certain types of work is absurd. Make the employers who hire foreign workers do it legally, treat temporary visa workers well and pay their fair share of the costs instead of just keeping those costs as profit. You're right. These people I remember from my childhood are NOT the same entitled illegal freeloaders invading our country today.

Now you’d be hard-pressed to find a non-Mexican working labor jobs in California. The main problem is the source of cheap labor businesses want with the illegal crossings. For a better or more permanent solution there needs to be a law that a company is fined $1,000 per day per worker, worked while in the US illegally. Make it unprofitable for businesses to hire them. Then, if and when we need help harvesting, set up a program to to hire the homeless who WANT to reset their lives. giving them employment, a stable albeit mobile life style with harvests. I do realize most are either need mental health treatment or are drug users, but those that do want a reset, here's a chance.
