One time I brought about 10 people from all walks of life, hipsters, bros, book worms, and only at the loop did everyone have the absolute best time, what a night.

Great job Michael ! Thank you for compiling all the photos and footage... especially in the days before cellphone cameras were a thing. For me it was like a 25 year long day. I would wake up when the sun was setting head downtown and throw a party for hundreds and hundreds of people seven days a week ! Everyone was a regular. We had generations of "alumni" who were our family and most importantly the best bar staff ever, not to mention all the amazing artists, DJs, musicians, bands and national acts (and Pete Best too)... My tattered old booking calendars tell me that I booked over 1000 musical acts every year between the Coach and the Loop - in the early years - when people couldn't get enough live original music ! Talking about the Double Mud, I calculate we served over 2 million of those, probably even more Purple Haze and quite a few Windexx as well. Thanks again to you and Al ! By the way we never kicked out at 2:15. The music would play till 2:30 , the FU lights would come on and you had till 2:45 to finish your drink(s), after that if you didn't want to leave we would hand you a broom and you had to help us clean up... only to do it all over again the next night! Cheers! Jay.

Oh the loop is very special to me. I met my husband there, 16 years and four kids later we still long to go back. It was a staple for Richard and I for many years, more him than I because he's a few years older than me. He used to go swing dancing there, and I always looked forward to the 70s/80s nights. Amanda, one of the DJs even performed her skills at our wedding. There weren't many weekends that we missed going to the loop. Loved this video so much, thank you for putting it together.

Really appreciated this video-thanks for putting it together Mike, and for the commentary Al. The first time I went to the Loop was in 1995 or 1996 to see The Inbreds. Then many weekends after that were spent on one or more levels of that iconic and in many ways-mysterious building. I was fortunate enough to have played there with several different bands. One great memory was when The Scarecrows played for over 24 hours with the aim of securing the Guinness record for longest gig. Does anyone know how long they held this title?

The A/Amherst/Jimmy’s Pub was my first and favourite hangout spot. But the Coach was a close second, and basically the setting for my entire adult social life, lol. Our friends’ various bands’ playing was the only excuse good enough to get me to go through the hassle of a night downtown once we had kids. It was a very weird transition once smoking wasn’t allowed in the Coach anymore, lol. The whole place would just completely empty between sets as everybody went outside for a smoke break. I remember really liking the Loop when it first opened, less claustrophobic than downstairs, lol. But it didn’t have the same cozy feel so I spent a lot less time there, and it’s been a million years, so I really don’t even remember the look of the place at all, so it was really nice seeing some pictures. Those stairs definitely familiar though, it took a deep breath and a pep talk every time you started up, and felt you deserved a high five every time you made it down in one piece! Lol. As incredibly nostalgic as I am, one thing I’ve never had a happy reunion with is the Coach’s bathroom. Never not revolting.
@CCNutritionist3 жыл бұрын
The smoke used to be so thick in the Coach, especially before the Loop opened and the population spread out through the complex, that even as a smoker, myself, the second hand smoke would become unbearable and I'd have to go outside.
