/ @honeymoneytv
The one thing most beekeepers hate to see is a swarm flying from their own box. Many times that swarm lands up high in a tree and makes it very difficult to recover. Thus causing the beekeeper to lose half of that colony of bees. But today, this beekeeper is the happiest beek around. I not only got to see it happen and recover the swarm, but share it with you in the process.
A few years back I had a swarm I caught from a similar tree while standing on top of my truck. It was a huge swarm and off the cuff, I titled that video, if I Hadn't Caught It On Video You Wouldn't Have Believed me ( • If I Hadn't Caught It ... ) . It was an amazing outcome to an experience I shared doing the thing I love. And today, I added another memory of my hobby to the list.
The hive in this video has been well inspected for the last month. Although weather has held me back for a few days in catching the signs that this colony was about to split. And as you see, they didn't wait for me either. All good though, I was thankful to be in the yard inspecting another colony of bees when all broke loose and they did what nature intends for them to do, make more colonies.
I hope you enjoyed this episode and felt the excitement I had for the opportunity to just be in the middle of one of natures most amazing events. Swarming Bees.

A honey bee (also spelled honeybee) is a eusocial flying insect within the genus Apis of the bee clade, all native to mainland Afro-Eurasia.[1][2] After bees spread naturally throughout Africa and Eurasia, humans became responsible for the current cosmopolitan distribution of honey bees, introducing multiple subspecies into South America (early 16th century), North America (early 17th century), and Australia (early 19th century).[1]
Honey bees are known for their construction of perennial colonial nests from wax, the large size of their colonies, and surplus production and storage of honey, distinguishing their hives as a prized foraging target of many animals, including honey badgers, bears and human hunter-gatherers. Only 8 surviving species of honey bee are recognized, with a total of 43 subspecies, though historically 7 to 11 species are recognized. Honey bees represent only a small fraction of the roughly 20,000 known species of bees.
The best known honey bee is the western honey bee, (Apis mellifera), which was domesticated for honey production and crop pollination. The only other domesticated bee is the eastern honey bee (Apis cerana), which occurs in South, Southeast, and East Asia. Only members of the genus Apis are true honey bees,[3] but some other types of bees produce and store honey and have been kept by humans for that purpose, including the stingless bees belonging to the genus Melipona and the Indian stingless or dammar bee Tetragonula iridipennis. Modern humans also use beeswax in making candles, soap, lip balms and various cosmetics, as a lubricant and in mould-making using the lost wax process.
Etymology and name
The genus name Apis is Latin for "bee".[4][5] Although modern dictionaries may refer to Apis as either honey bee or honeybee, entomologist Robert Snodgrass asserts that correct usage requires two words, i.e., honey bee, because it is a kind or type of bee. It is incorrect to run the two words together, as in dragonfly or butterfly, which are appropriate because dragonflies and butterflies are not flies[6] and have no connection with dragons or butter.

I have always been told and I am or was a beebetter. If a colony swarms, you failed the colony. Because unless you're raising bees and not honey. Swarming is a negative thing. If you're raising bees and swarmings fine don't expect, honey. Because the population that they need to gather all that nectar is now Going Out in the swarm. I've never understood the mentality about how that's a gift, but it depends on what you're looking for your colonies to do. If you sell bees, that's one thing if you sell honey that's another seldom. Can you get both?

Aww, they are so beautiful! Those chonky little golden bodies, always so busy! I work with young children and the other day one of them said he was scared of bees. I said he shouldn't fear them because they are normally too busy working and they have no time for stinging randomly if you don't get in their way. At this point a little girl joins the conversation and says "Yeah, if one started chasing you, the queen would come and say 'Hey! Where are you going? Why aren't you doing your work?' and she'd be in trouble". 🥰

Stupid race track pattern around the three acres. Like stock car racing. Them three of the four, roosted together. Set a deep down, all walked in. Three queens in one deep, cohabitating. Unreal.

Wow I just watched you removing a hive from a tree seven years ago. The tree was damaged because they were logging in the area and they called you over and asked you to save what you could save. Was fascinating to watch how you worked the bees without getting them too upset with you. Where are you? Drilled a hole at the top and was smoking them top and bottom and letting them come out in the middle to the box that you gave them. I find it fascinating how you can work with those bees so easily . I’m very happy that I found your channel. It really is well. Use the same word fascinating. I’m allergic to bees so I really can’t go. Check them out. You work with honeybees it’s just poetry in motion. I haven’t found any of your KZbin posts that deal with Africanized bees, do you ever have to work with them? I’ve spent the last two weeks watching almost all of your videos. You truly do love your job and you’re very good at it. I look forward to seeing your next video.

My husband and I are new to bee keeping, he rescued a small swarm last year from the underbelly of a office trailer and wasn't able to get the queen so he ordered Carniolan queen bee and asked if i'd be okay with having a hive here at the house since i have lots of flowers (i garden mainly for butterflies and hummingbirds).. well we have had 5 swarms from the main hive this week and we were able to capture 4 of the 5.. twice they've landed on my hummingbird feeder, once on a hanging basket, in our bamboo & in a neighbors tree.. we've got a lot to learn but it's pretty cool to watch them swarm, we're opening up the main hive tomorrow to search for any more queen cells.

Yappy I only buy honey off the side of the road with the comb in it. The last really really good honey that I got was in Louisiana and it was very dark. So good. But I'm out again. So my question is what kind of bees have you found to make the very best honey and why also what areas of the country and why. What causes the difference in the colors of honey ??? Is it age primarily ? I live in Texas but so the roads I travel are mostly Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and sometimes Mississippi. But I'm thinking of buying some honey out of my area to sample them. So what makes the best honey?

Great question. Bees generally swarm anywhere in the morning window but will potentially swarm in early afternoon up until as late as 2pm. But the morning windows are the norm. Seen that timeframe 99% correct for years. The odd fact is how long they stay in that first spot they land on after they swarm. No norms in that. I have seen them leave 30 mins later and had some stay through until the next afternoon before they leave.

Bees are some of the most fascinating and beautiful creatures on this planet. If more people made a study of them we would have more harmony in the human world. A swarm is one of the most fascinating aspects of bee keeping. I get lost in hive inspections because it is such a miracle to witness. Love the bees Brian Petrocine

Love it I just did this 3 times this week. But I just lost my big swarm 35ft up a tree. Question how do I get them to bring nectar up in the super instead of packing the deep.

How long does it take for the swarm to stabilize in the new hive? Do bees always swarm in the spring? How much honey do they have to make before they have enough to feed the baby bees to bring the population up to make a viable hive? When bees swarm, is that because there are 2 queens in the hive and does the old hive queen still run a working/viable hive? Are hive collapses just old queens or hives that die of old age?

They go right into rebuilding shortly after they get in the box. Takes a few days to draw comb and backfill into the cells to store food. In 2 days they are already foraging. They are pretty organized about it.
