Retired mechanic from North Central Texas and I am so glad brake and fuel hard lines last the life of the vehicle down here
@tarstarkuszАй бұрын
The "life of the vehicle" is already getting longer, like 26 years now, and is likely to get much, much longer. They are trying to phase out real cars and replace them with EVs. This will mean people will keep their vehicles much longer. Probably much longer than anyone imagines today.
@toomanytododge2594Ай бұрын
@tarstarkusz 😂😂 there not going to last. Battery's go dead alot and usually with evs they get recycled because it's just cheaper to buy a new one. even modern vehicles now are junk and will not last 25 years. If you want to keep the world cleaner just keep running and fixing older vehicles. Way less of a carbon footprint then building a new one and 10x less than building an ev
@tarstarkuszАй бұрын
@@toomanytododge2594 My point was that a lot of people don't want an EV and will maintain their ICE cars and trucks much, much longer than they are used to. Plus, as all the people who do move to EVs, the price of gasoline will drop dramatically unless they add taxes to the price. Because it will be very difficult to drop gasoline production much. You can drop it some, but that not that much. In order to get kerosene and diesel and other heavier hydrocarbons from the oil, you must produce the lighter gasoline first.

I bought pre-bent SS Tube set for my truck. Lines were bent to fit their respective locations just fine, but the flaring was poor. Both rear lines leaked at the fittings, at the rear hose junction block. Closer exam showed the flares were skewed/off center and were never going to seal. I bought some Nicopp and cut & flared both lines. Fit fine and no leaks. Check your lines' flares right out of the box.
@bluegrassman3040Ай бұрын
That must have been what was wrong with the new lines I bought for 99 Silverado several years ago. I installed the stainless ones and I had two fittings that’s leaked at the ABS module when the pedal was pressed. They leaked between the threads. Hi Wes I live in Ohio right in the middle of the rust belt, I did brake lines completely and fuel lines on a 2000 k 2500 Chevy truck. I can tell you I use the basic kit from harbor freight as far as the flare tools and ni cop lines ordered off of eBay I actually reused every single fitting drilling them out and cleaning them up and using as you said the anti-seize as well. And I can tell you I didn't have a lift and I can tell you I did it laying on 3/4 inch rock and a blanket in the middle of winter in a storage facility that I had it parked at. It was no fun but it all came out great, the ni cop is such a forgiving product. So by the way I lost doing the last line on my truck the double bubble fitting for the 5/16 somewhere in my truck. This is how good our Lord is I drove the truck to the shop had it put on a computer and then drove it to my daughter's house where I parked it and have rebuild the motor now. While reinstalling the rebuilt engine had a piece of plywood underneath the truck so I can work cleanly and their low and behold was that 5/16 fitting that I had lost 2 years prior I must have knocked it loose or something the whole time it had been hiding in the truck now you can't just buy that fitting you'll have to replace the whole set as you well know. I was so happy hands held high on how good our Lord is. Wes I wanted to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a far better new year to come.

Drape a tarp, pull another long one under on edges so closes gap to ground etc. An 8' step ladder at your primary work spot makes easy support for tarp over you. At the OEM supplier, all of these hoses plus the fuel hoses are pre-bent then pre-assembled with all of the clips that tie them together and attach them onto the car, into a module that is shipped to the assembly plant as one piece. At the assembly plant (that I'm familiar with), after the bare body comes out of paint and goes into final assembly, the first thing that is assembled onto the bodyshell is that hose module. Everything else goes on afterward. You have my sympathies. 🙂

I had to do this on my late wife's '99 Tahoe that I had delusions of driving in the winter here on the East Coast. My Mini was in no way equipped for winter driving, but alas and alack, the Tahoe was doing that nickle-dime thing that older vehicles sometimes do. Not long after, I donated it to charity, mainly for the tax write-off. I did get a similar kit, but it's been long enough now that I don't remember where I got it from. Let me say this about that: 1st, there was only ONE video on youtube that even covered replacing all the brake lines. It was pretty helpful, but he tended to make a lot of assumptions that a lot of folks could be misled. 2nd, if you don't have a lift, you might want to pass on this repair. Especially if one is at all conscientious about ripping out the old brake lines and so on. The most difficult part was the lines that go behind the gas tank, between it and the frame. Also: do the fuel lines at the same time. Don't do as I did and ignore them, because guess what? They're next to go.

I wonder if one of those induction heater for bolts and metal forming would work for those rust bolts

I bet it would.

Nice work! I used to work on classic cars where line kits didn't exist, and making lines was quite calming - as long I wasn't in a rush. The stainless flares need more torque because the material is harder than steel or nicop (=kunifer) so needs more force to crush into a nice seal.
@ShainAndrewsАй бұрын
8:44 Stainless is harder than the lines that came off, then you get to battle the work hardening of a double flare.

The owner needs to watch a Project Farm video on headlight polishing kits. It will take about an hour. I think the last time Sylvania was the winner. It makes a legit difference.

@@Troy_Built Short term, should be fine. What you did was just like having the stuff on your hands then handling synthetic rubber. Like the grip on a DLSR Canon. Ask me how I know.

That brake line job was excellent, almost like artwork for a truck that will last many years. Congrats on the bleeders, as they have caused a lot of trouble on other vehicles. I always look forward to your videos and I understand all the time it takes to edit and produce them, but your voice is very pleasant to listen to along with the description of what you're doing. The filming is right in there where you're working which is excellent. I've never had a problem hearing or understanding your content as your mic placement works. Love Max and what he might find as you're probably wondering as well.

I tried to replace rear brake lines on a Galant in the driveway. Found out without a lift it’s virtually impossible, brake lines suck. I sent it in to my local mechanic. You make it look easy. Good work as usual.

Stainless work hardens when flared ,so that,s why you have to bare down on them hard You could aneall them or just keep on doing what you said. Antiseize should be used on all brake fittings regardless. Keep up the good work Wes.

I think I speak for anyone in the salty road area... an extra $100 added to the cost of a vehicle to get Stainless brake lines when new is not even a question. It should be a standard requirement.
