Such a strong and beautiful love story. I agree, Jamie and Claire’s story needs that “and they ride off into the sunset together” type of ending. I don’t think any of the two could go on living without the other.

True, and fans would also be happy if they will have happy ending as they already suffered too much.

If they hadn't gone through a billion traumatic events together then maybe a tragic ending would satisfy some need for 'realism'. Their love is a miracle love, it deserves the miracle of seeing them together till the end.

I would love to see them return into the future and see how Sam adjusts to Claire's time.

She's right though. The thought of one of them dying and leaving the other behind... It literally makes me ache. I love their characters so much. No one wants to see that agony. 😭

She's a new mom, having to do publicity, etc., on top of that. I'm sure she's exhausted a lot of the time.

One thing she would never do is self medicate. Rape is not something easily forgotten, but women a lot less strong than someone with Claires personality have lived and functioned, aside from the periodic flash backs. You go on because you must, and Claire more than most has demanding work as well as the demands of family to force her to carry on. That experience of seeing that “fat lump” , as the author put it, certainly would have brought it back, but what she did in the book was a totally natural response for that event for any survivor. Self medication might be a response for some, her response was prayer, which would be natural to her, in the book. It isn’t the response of many, nor surprisingly enough is revenge. The rapists being dead does nothing at all to end the flashbacks or mend the damage. That is a personal process, one which Claire engaged in, In the book. She was not responsible for her husband finding out and what he did about it. That was his response to her rape, and in character for Jamie, but not her response nor her responsibility. I think having Claire, of all people, self medicate, as mentioned in another interview, is an insult to the strength of character of survivors.

An abused character's -- or a person's -- behavior is no reflection on anyone else's "character." Even the strongest people can have dysfunctional responses. This is as true of combat veterans as it is of rape victims. It's not about "will power" or anything like that. It's not for anyone to judge. Certainly, not an insult to anyone; Claire doesn't represent all survivors. No one does.
