It has to be covered.
It's a crime that it's taken me this long to finally do this one. These part two covers were songs that now that I'm really trying to force myself into the world of doing my own vocals, I had to do as soon as possible. It's in a great vocal range for me, and I'm a huge fan of this soundtrack and it's been clear to me how much you guys love this OST as well.
I actually remember playing through this game really enjoying the soundtrack, but wondering if it'd be really that popular due to it's heavy use of vocals during scenes with dialogue which can usually be very distracting. I'm really glad this game's soundtrack also seems to be having a resurgence because it gives me an excuse to prioritize bringing my take on it to you guys.
This is the first cover in over a decade of this channel to be mixed by someone other than me. In an effort to lower my workload so I can take on more spontaneous projects, I've hired on the help of the insanely talented Johnny Manchild to assist me in creating these covers. You'll probably notice the difference here in the low end from my previous mixes. I'm really excited to see the new dimension of my covers moving forward having someone else be part of the creative process. Can't wait to hear what you think!

Fun fact: this song is actually from Raiden's perspective, though that's not immediately obvious in the original. This sounds like Raiden is *actually* singing it, though. Very good!

It's from raiden talking to sam even, not armstrong. The "followed your wrath" bit in addition that the music and vocals can be heard only when you hold sam's katana make it even more clear.

I tend to disagree. "I carved my own path, you followed your wrath". The wrath is most likely referring to Raiden's desire for justice and vengeance, as for "my own path", it's most likely referring to Armstrong's incredibly well built organization and ideology. The whole "you and I are the same" is also present, as Armstrong calls Raiden a kindred soul, that they are not different. Raiden only accepts this as truth later in the story, after the credits. And I personally prefer the song to be from the perspective of Armstrong, it gives his character more humanity. According to the song, he basically admits that the fate he chose was one of sacrifice and that in a better world, he would have never done this. He's doing it for the cause he considers higher, and aknowledges the damages he inflicts on innocents while making this future possible, even admitting that nobody truly is responsible for all that, highlighting that he is not in control, but rather, trying to take it.

Raiden, despite being a child soldier managed to become a fighter of justice and a father, and accepte his innet bloodlust as part of it without succumbing it to it. He choosed his own path. As again it's betwern sam and raiden. Raiden don't even acknowledge armstrong philosophy and thought process, simply seeing him as a insane asshole. He has nothing in common with him. Their entire view of what is weak and what is strong is another example

I mean, every boss battle in the game is from the perspective of the boss, so it only strengthens the idea that it's Armstrong talking here, not Raiden. Raiden aknowledged Armstrong's philosophy (probably not entirely, though, I do agree with that) by the end of the game, post-credits. It took him time to process Armstrong's message, and although Raiden may not be as "pro-cleansing the weak", I do think he now considers the strong as worthy of having, too, a better, more human life. One of the strongest message of the game is that both the weak and the mighty are the unknown victims of the world, being tools of higher, more furtive powers. Money, fame, political influence, etc. Armstrong does have a point regarding that.
