I am sorry for those that have faced racism. Probably in big cities blacks face those issues. People, just do not generalise. In Africa blacks also hate other blacks (Xenophobia). If you don't love your own race, how can you expect to be loved by those who don't look like you? We must be rational.

I am Rwandan, born and raised in Paris, and I have lived in many countries across the US, Europe, and East Africa. I studied medicine in Mannheim, and I have to say, Germany has a different level of racism. It's so pervasive and extreme that it's almost hard to believe it exists. The discrimination is particularly severe against people of African descent, especially those with darker skin and Black hair. This has been well-known for quite some time. I’m not sure what your point is, but racism in smaller German cities can be life-threatening. In larger cities like Munich and Berlin, it tends to be mostly verbal, but it remains pervasive across every level of society and in every type of interaction. This affects all socioeconomic groups and age brackets of the entire Black diaspora, whether they are visiting, studying, working, or born in Germany. Inter-conflict in Africa-a continent with 54 countries, many of which now experience low conflict and reduced tribalism-has no relevance to what we are discussing here. Your argument is flawed, lazy, and misdirected. It lacks relevance to the broader issue of institutional, overt, verbal, and violent racism against people of African descent in Germany specifically.

Re: the lady at 6:50 who said that she lived and studied in America and didn't experience any racism while there although she was aware of police brutality and the like which was happening, I'd like to offer an observtion as a Black American. Your being an African student and female might have shielded you from actually experiencing American racism. Your "body language", speech, probable places of habitation, and the like would have been part of the mix. Africans from the continent are often perceived differently in America and not subject to the uglier aspects of racist behavior because there is no long standing relationship with them as there is with Black Americans where hostility has been germinating over centuries of co-existence. The Africans are perceived as "purer", more amenable, as all-around better people in some cases. It's also recognized that as a student, you are in America on a short term basis and have a homeland to return to. There are some Africans who have remained in America to work, and before retiring from teaching school in a very large urban district, I've met some people from the continent who've worked for the school district as professionals. One lady from Nigeria was the school nurse for several years before retiring and returning to her country. I've met at least three older Africans, two men and a woman, who were working as substitute teachers for the district. What riles white Americans, as well as many Black Americans, is the "inner-city" type "self-absorbed" and anti-social behavior, speech, and dress styles of some youngish Black Americans taken from the "hip-hop" and "gangsta" music cultures, which most continental Africans would find puzzling and off-putting. I have heard of only a few police encounters with Africans that ended with fatalities: Amadou Diallo from Guinea who was murdered by the New York police in 1999 who fired 41 times, and Patrick Lyoya of Democratic Republic of Congo, who was murdered in April, 2022 by police in Grand Rapids, Michigan in a case of what I suspect was cultural and linguistic dissonance on the part of the police. Mr. Lyola did not seem to be fluent in English as he was from a largely Francophone as well as multi-lingual (ethnic languages) country, and the police who stopped him were not speakers of French language nor any other languages spoken in DRC. English is also not always clearly or crisply spoken in the U.S. as there is much slang, regional accents, varying speeds of speech, and slurring of syllables. Police procedures for traffic stops also differed between the U.S. and those in DRC. What I'd like to ask of you as a rather long-term resident of Germany is whether you've observed racist treatent of Black Americans in that county. I've been to Germany twice, in 1974 and in 2001. In 1974, I was with a tour group, and in 2001 I was with my mom, and we stayed in Munich and were following an itenerary of independent tours from a travel agency in Pasadena, Calif. We had no problems with German nationals and had many friendly conversations at that time. I'd like to know if you've heard of any changes over the past 23 years. I've also read that Black Americans receive different treatment from Africans at the airports after arrivals during passport checks.

I dealt with racism in Germany but it doesn't mean ALL German people are racist. It is very few and they aren't a problem. I lived in Germany for eight years and talk to my German friends EVERY DAY from the UK. They are some of the nicest people I have met, and everything in Germany is perfect. If people have a problem with Germany they should leave. The problem they are finding is that they are not used to Western Culture, and the same culture in Germany can be found in Norfolk, England. People are how they are, and they like what they like, and it is what it is. There is no excuse for uncleanliness in Germany, and when people move to Germany from different parts of the world, they think it is okay to cook smelly food ALL DAY, and turn a normal apartment block into a smelly death trap, attracting rats and other vermin. It is THEM who is the problem, not Germany. My father is from Nigeria and my mother is from Jamaica, but that doesn't mean I should turn up in Germany and blast loud Jamaican music at 3am just because I want to. As I said... the problem is actually them, which is the same as the problems with Islam in Germany. Muslims don't talk to me. They keep themselves to themselves, and wonder why people start to hate them. It is because they don't integrate. Germany is the best country in the world. Whoever says it isn't can't afford an entry ticket to Phantasialand! Lol

Its not what I expected considering the marketing of the city on an international level. Also meeting other German POCs, there is a weird sense of Stockholm Syndrome with sympathising with the very racism they endure.
