Putting the transmission cooler inside the radiator is one of the dumbest things engineered in the automotive industry

I agree 😮! I have transmission fluid mixed in with water or coolant and now I am praying that this has not damaged the transmission! The mechanic says that he just has to flush out the mixture..... but I was told that it is too late to save the transmission. Do you have any insight on this?

Very thoroughly explained, complete with logic and rationale. DAMN good video!

Most transmissions have magnets in the pan but aluminum is not magnetic so fine particles will remain suspended in the fluid and migrate to become sediment anywhere in the transmission system. The fine sediment passes right through a filter. The same gray goo that you are getting out of a torque converter is also in the rest of the transmission. If a transmission cooler becomes contaminated it will allow fine aluminum particles to get back into fresh fluid after a fluid change.

This is true, some put on an in line filter. I use an in line filter for transmission that have govenors on them.

That convertor looked like it had oil and coolant mixed first then that mixture made it into the transmission,, Appreciate what your doing sir,, Did the engine have an issue, I've never seen it that color,,always strawberry milkshake color

Yes! You can not just flush a transmission contaminated with anti-freeze especially with these lock-up converters. The clutch material will flake off & you'll burn up the transmission. Informative vid
@flinch6222 жыл бұрын
Beyond that, I would not trust bearings inside: emulsification is a loss of lubrication. Don't blink, just replace it - and the radiator with the failed intercooler. The transission? Headed for a rebuild, with new clutch packs and bearings/bushings/seals at a minimum..
@flinch6222 жыл бұрын
Antifreeze and any kind of oil is bad news. These converters with clutches make the case for having a bolt tegether converter, although that does come with an extra maintenance cost: o-rings and seals only take so much heat.

Simply: drain fluid as much as it comes out on particular car. Fill it, drive it and drain it again few times. If you wanna keep your car for a long tine that is;) Mine cars ran hundreds of thousands of miles with auto trans no problems:)

Had a boss that tried this one time. Winter time came, and their was ice in the transmission. I guess the customer had water in the engine instead of antifreeze. However, it is best to change the transmission if you are a shop working on a customer vehicle. Antifreeze will peel off frictions.

@thisisyourtransmission Hello Sir. Question. I have a custom project with a 10l80. When i installed the torque convertor i added dexron vi instead of dexron ULV inside of TC. The engine has not been started. And the transmission has no ATF other than whats in the TC. Do i need to replace the TC or is there a way around that? Thanks appreciate your time
@thisisyourtransmission Жыл бұрын
Well, how much is in the torque converter? How many courts?
@marcosnguyen2093 Жыл бұрын
@@thisisyourtransmission well it had some of the original fluid in which is the correct dex ulv. I added like .5-1 qt of dex vi. I want to say about total 3-4 qts

@@marcosnguyen2093 I don't see how it would hurt. The other transmission fluid will probably dilute that one quart. The only other way is to take the transmission out and pour the fluid out. Your choice.

My transmission was under water , I know I have to drain it , my question is do I have to drop transmission to clean torque converter or is it sealed from water ?
@thisisyourtransmission Жыл бұрын
Take the transmission pan down and see if the water has gotten into the transmission. If it has, and you have been driving it then it will be in the torque converter. You will have to take the transmission out of the vehicle.
@arlenefaulconer3351 Жыл бұрын
Vehicle hasn't moved at all other than being started and pulled in gear for about 30 seconds . I've removed the pan from transmission and very much milky colour , I removed the flat filter at bottom and also drained half litre or so . I'm hoping that cleaning this as will as cooler and lines would be sufficient, then run vehicle and then remove all fluids again if milky colour continues?

So how do you flush a torque converter!
@thisisyourtransmission2 жыл бұрын
really there is no way to adequately flush a torque converter if it is full of antifreeze. You just get another one.

Can a blown head gasket cause the internal radiator leak which results in this?
@thisisyourtransmission4 жыл бұрын
I think this is the other way around. This can cause a blown head gasket on some vehicles because if the transmission fluid get into the engine, the engine will overheat.

How the fuck tranny fluid going to get in engine dumbass? Why woukd tranny fluid cause it to over heat?

I had a pile of dry matter, settled in the bottom of my oil drain pan. It was enough to fill at least a 32 Oz yogurt container!, or more! I did have transmission fluid - but smells burnt, and dark black red. Thank you, again, Q3! I did ask about a new external transfer oil cooler. Now, I will do that. I was going to put a filter on the line. I guess I can still do that, and change it after 100 miles or less, and every 3,000 miles? Or, would an inline filter slow the flow too much? I was thinking of putting a filter on both lines initially; but, with a new cooler, it would go on the line TO the cooler - to protect the new cooler... ? I guess, I will flush the block too. I need an oil change anyway.
